The Opportunity
Pioneer Construction is seeking hardworking and dependable individuals to join our Asphalt Paving Crew as Equipment Operators, based in the Sudbury, Ontario area. Our paving teams play a critical role in building and maintaining the roads and infrastructure that connect Northern Ontario communities. Whether you’re an experienced operator or looking to advance your career in construction, we provide training, mentorship, and opportunities to develop your skills in a supportive team environment.

Your Day-to-Day

Operate paving and construction equipment, including pavers, rollers, graders, bulldozers, backhoes, spreaders, excavators, loaders, material transfer vehicles, asphalt plants, and related machinery, as assigned and qualified

Safely operate, inspect, and care for tools, equipment, and machinery used in daily operations

Load, unload, and transfer construction materials using appropriate equipment and methods

Follow all company, client, and regulatory health and safety policies, procedures, and standards

Wear and maintain required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times

Adhere to established safety and emergency procedures and report hazards or incidents promptly

Accurately complete daily logs,



timesheets, and work orders as required

Perform physically demanding work including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, crouching, climbing, crawling, repetitive reaching, and extended periods of standing throughout the workday

Maintain a clean and tidy work environment and equipment

Work in various weather conditions including inclement weather conditions

Work evenings, weekends, and extended hours as required to meet operational and project demands

Travel to job sites across Northern Ontario, including occasional out-of-town assignments with overnight stays

Work in accordance with all internal, client and regulated health and safety policies, procedures and/or regulations, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Perform other related duties as assigned

You Are a Good Fit If You Have
Required

Prior experience operating equipment in the construction industry

Valid G class Driver’s License and reliable mode of transportation

Solid commitment to safety and teamwork

Considered an Asset

Secondary School diploma or equivalent

Skills & Abilities

Successfully satisfy comprehensive pre-employment third party testing requirements (Drug and Alcohol testing and Criminal Background Check (CPIC) and any other requirements that are imposed on contractors)





Ability to perform physically intensive and strenuous tasks

Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision

Strong communication skills with supervisors, coworkers, and clients

Ability to adapt to changing job requirements and schedules

Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

Professional attitude and strong work ethic

This position is governed by a collective agreement. The pay range posted reflects base compensation under the applicable agreement. Placement within the range is based on experience, qualifications, and union provisions. Benefits and other incentives are offered separately.
