Core Function This position is responsible for providing superior customer service in the delivery of information and assistance to Museum visitors and Art & Design Store customers.
Scope and Major Responsibilities Greets guests and provides information and assistance with regards to admissions, exhibitions and programming.
Provides professional and efficient customer service ensuring needs are met, and concerns are resolved.
Operates ticketing, scanning and POS systems, handles financial transactions including cashouts and deposits.
Performs opening and closing procedures, as required.
Supports the sale of programs, tours and eventsForwards rental and event inquiries to the appropriate person for follow up
Responds to enquiries from the public, redirecting them, as necessary, to the appropriate person/division.
Supports Museum member relations, services, and the sale of museum memberships.
Ensures reception desk, atrium, and Art & Design Store are organized, presentable and safe.
Maintains ongoing knowledge of merchandise, exhibition and programming offerings.
Ensures products and displays are merchandised effectively.
Processes customer onsite and online orders.
Participates in inventory management and tracking.
Leads engaging tours for diverse audiences, adapting to groups, and ensuring a secure, positive experience.
Provides exhibition interpretation for visitors and information about the museum and programs.
Monitors artwork in galleries ensuring established security and safety protocols are upheld and assists with incident reports and emergency procedures.
Learns, adopts, and delivers tours having an in-depth understanding of the material.
Assists with special events and programming as required
Assists with providing shift orientation for new staff.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Abilities, & Skills Knowledge of the arts, retail or tourism sectors.
Knowledge of public sector and non-profit organizational operations.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Demonstrated ability to provide professional, courteous customer service and effectively work through difficult situations and conversations.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with assigned staff, trustees,artists, donors, sponsors, stakeholders, partners and the public.
Demonstrated organizational and planning skills.
Ability to follow cash handling and security protocols.
Demonstrated skill in the use of a computer with Microsoft Office software and POS systems.
Qualifications Grade 12 education. A degree or diploma related to arts or tourism would be considered an asset.
One year’s related experience in the arts, education and/or tourism industry.
One year’s experience communicating effectively with the public on broad range of topics.
Ability to speak additional language and/or ability to communicate with sign language would be considered an asset
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Possession of First Aid/ CPR Certification and AED Certification – training provided upon hire
SECURITY REQUIREMENTS: Acceptable current Criminal record Check (CRC) upon offer of employment
