It operates as part of a congregate living site that includes 72 units of permanent housing. The shelter is funded by the City of Toronto and adheres to Toronto Shelter Standards.Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare and serve breakfast daily in a cafeteria setting.Assist the Food Services Co‑ordinator in the preparation of meals and afternoon snacks as required by Toronto Shelter Standards.Order food, dishes, and silverware supplies, and purchase supplies as needed in consultation with the Food Services Co‑ordinator.Shop for food items as needed and prepare for following day's meals.Store unused food supplies properly to meet health regulations and prevent spoilage; lock food storagearea.Wash dishes and store them overnight; lock storage area.Clean food preparation and serving areas, ensuring all health regulations are met.Clean cafeteria daily, including tables, counters, vending machines; sweep and wash floor.Clean kitchen appliances, including refrigerators, freezer, tables, counters, stoves, sinks,



and floor.Empty and clean garbage cans daily.Report equipment problems and cleaning supply needs to the Food Services Co‑ordinator.Assist with special events at 1st Stop Woodlawn Residence (e.G., Annual Meeting, Special Events).QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent (Cases for Equivalency will be considered).1 to 3 years’ experience in food handling and food preparation.Completed Food Handlers Certificate.Completed Toronto Shelter Standards training.Knowledge of a second language is an asset.Ability to maintain a positive approach and a qualified manner at all times.Ability to interact with a diverse community of women and young women within shelter and housing environments.Experience working in a residential setting is an asset.Experience working with culturally diverse populations.Union InformationYWCA Toronto is a unionized workplace.
