Elevate Indigenous student well-being as a Youth Counsellor with the District School Board of Niagara. Engage with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students through culturally responsive support.
This permanent role focuses on nurturing relationships with Indigenous youth across DSBN’s elementary and secondary schools. The ideal candidate will utilize strengths-based and trauma-informed approaches to promote the well-being and success of students. Collaborate with educators, families, and community partners to create inclusive learning environments that respect Indigenous identities.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide relationship-based support to Indigenous students
• Collaborate with school staff and Indigenous well-being teams
• Implement culturally affirming educational strategies
• Promote student engagement and well-being initiatives
• Document student progress while maintaining confidentiality
Requirements:
• Child and Youth Care Diploma or equivalent qualifications
• Experience with Indigenous communities and students
• Robust communication and organizational skills
• Valid Ontario Driver’s License for travel
• Preference for candidates self-identifying as Indigenous
