For further details of what we offer, please visit Why Milton Position Summary Reporting to the Supervisor, Roads, the Seasonal Maintenance Operator supports daily activities of operational services within the division. This position will perform a variety of operational tasks to support road maintenance while ensuring they are meeting service levels and following all safety standards.
Position Summary Reporting to the Supervisor, Roads, the Seasonal Maintenance Operator supports daily activities of operational services within the division. This position will perform a variety of operational tasks to support road maintenance while ensuring they are meeting service levels and following all safety standards. Term: November 2, 2026 - March 31, 2027.
Scheduling Requirements This non-union position requires various schedules and shifts, including days, afternoons, nights, weekends, and holidays, to adequately meet business and operational needs. The Seasonal Maintenance Operator - Roads, Winter Operations, works on a standard 40-hour work week schedule. Shift times will be determined based on operational needs.
Based on workload and winter conditions to meet service level requirements overtime will be required, as needed. Winter Operations are critical; as such, any requested time off during this time will only be approved based on operational requirements.
Major Job Responsibilities Execute day to day activities related to road operations: Maintenance and repair of roads, sidewalks, curbs, bridges/culverts, signs, and stormwater infrastructure.
Snow plowing/removal, sanding, salting and de-icing, activities during winter operations.
Performs hot/cold-mix road maintenance activities.
Performs debris and garbage pickup.
Performs traffic control and road patrol.
Other duties as assigned.
Performs all duties in accordance with Ontario Health & Safety legislation and established policies & procedures.
Follows equipment operating guidelines.
Ensures all PPE is utilized and worn as per requirements.
Performs pre and post audits of all equipment utilized.
Complete equipment work order forms as required.
Responds to customer inquiries according to established procedures and approved decision making framework.
Maintains ongoing communication with internal staff to maintain a high level of efficiency and service.
Education & Experience Minimum Qualifications Secondary school diploma required or equivalent. Minimum one (1) year experience in municipal public works or parks and/or other relevant and/or equivalent experience A valid DZ License with a satisfactory driving record, persons with 4 or more demerit points need not apply. Working knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations, i.e. Ontario Health & Safety Act (OHSA) Strong communication, interpersonal and customer service skills Mechanical aptitude to operate relevant equipment Able to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications Post-secondary education parks or maintenance or related field and/or combination of relevant post-secondary education and related experience
Minimum two (2) years' experience in municipal road, park or forestry and horticulture operations
Standard CPR and First Aid
Excellent verbal, written communication, interpersonal and customer service skills. Ontario Good Roads Association (OGRA) Snow School
Qualified to operate vehicles including tractors with miscellaneous attachments, loaders, rollers, bob cats, pickup trucks, and 1 ton dump trucks
Able to demonstrate solid decision making, be a team player and also have the ability to work independently as well as within a team
Ability to manage and prioritize workloads and events in stressful situations
Demonstrated ability to clearly and concisely communicate with others and to project a professional and positive image of the Town
Demonstrated awareness/commitment to accessible, professional customer service
Working knowledge of all aspects of Municipal Winter Operations including roads, sidewalks and parks maintenance as well as working knowledge of Minimum Maintenance Standards, O.Reg.239/02 & O.Reg.366/18
