COMPENSATIONADVISOR
Surrey Police Service (SPS) is Surrey’s new municipal police agency. On November 29, 2024,SPS became the police of jurisdiction, and assumed responsibility and commandfor policing and law enforcement in Surrey. POSITION OVERVIEW
Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Compensation Advisor to joinour Human Resources Division within the Corporate Services Bureau. Reporting tothe Compensation and Benefits Manager, the Compensation Advisor is a key memberof the Human Resources team, providing expertise in unionized job evaluation,classification, and compensation practices.
Workingclosely with managers, employees, unions, and other key stakeholders, the Compensation Advisor is responsible for administering and supporting all stagesof the unionized job evaluation and classification process. The positionprovides advice and recommendations on job content, classification, andcompensation matters, while ensuring consistency, accuracy, and alignment withestablished policies, procedures, and collective agreement provisions.
Schedule / Hours of Work
Thisis an on-site position with an anticipated schedule of Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Please note, the hours are subject tochange in accordance with operational requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and amend class specifications byconducting job analysis and interviewing employees and managers to gatherinformation regarding job duties, responsibilities, and requirements.
- Conduct job evaluations for new and existingpositions using established job evaluation methodology and processes.
- Review and assess reclassification requests andprovide recommendations based on job content and established evaluationcriteria.
- Provide quality assurance and consistency incompensation and job evaluation decisions.
- Communicate job evaluation and classificationoutcomes, including the rationale for decisions, to unions, managers, andemployees.
- Participate in and conduct compensation surveys tosupport market analysis and compensation planning.
- Provide advice and support in the development,review, and implementation of compensation-related policies, procedures, andpractices.
- Support the administration and implementation ofannual compensation programs and initiatives.
- Support the job review and evaluation process forexempt positions.
- Provide compensation-related advice and guidance tomanagers and HR stakeholders as required.
- Contribute to compensation projects, initiatives,and continuous improvement activities within Human Resources.

- Researchand data analysis skills, including the ability to interpret and synthesizecomplex information.

- Soundjudgment, discretion, and professionalism when handling sensitive andconfidential information.
- Effectivetime management and prioritization skills to manage competing priorities anddeadlines.

- Consultativeapproach to providing objective advice and supporting compensation and jobevaluation decisions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Undergraduatedegree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration,Compensation, or related field
- Minimumof 5 years of directly related experience in compensation,
job evaluation,classification systems, or related human resources discipline, preferablywithin a unionized environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, withthe ability to assess complex job information and develop soundrecommendations.
- Equivalenciesof education and experience may be considered.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, withthe ability to effectively communicate compensation and job evaluationdecisions to a variety of stakeholders.
- SPSCLEARANCE All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police securityclearance throughout their employment with SPS, which includesa mandatory polygraph examination.

- This is a union exempt position
- The salary range is $107,951
- $127,001annually (Pay Band P2) based on 2024 rates.
Junior candidates may be consideredat a salary range of $89,817
- $105,667 annually (Pay Band P1).
