Position Title: HR Generalist - Term Contract Duration: Sept 2026 Jan 2028 Salary & Advantages: $70,000-80,000 Position Status: Maternity Leave Replacement Location: Downtown Ottawa Work Model: Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 days remote) Our client represents and advocates for a distinct Indigenous people with a rich cultural heritage and a unique history.

The Human Resources Generalist plays a central role in strengthening the organizations people practices and workplace culture.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Administration, this position oversees key HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, policy development, performance management, and engagement.
The ideal candidate is a proactive, solutionsoriented professional who thrives in a collaborative setting and is committed to supporting employees and enhancing organizational effectiveness.
Responsibilities: Recruitment & Onboarding Lead the full-cycle recruitment process, including job description development, posting, screening,
and selection Coordinate a smooth and welcoming onboarding experience for new employees Employee Relations Serve as the primary contact for HR inquiries and workplace concerns Provide managers with guidance on HR policies, procedures, and employee-related matters Policy Development & Compliance Support the creation, implementation, and continuous improvement of HR policies and procedures Ensure adherence to federal and provincial employment legislation Stay informed on HR best practices, legislative updates, and emerging technologies in talent management Employee Development Assist managers with performance management processes and documentation Analyze recruitment and retention trends and recommend strategies to attract and retain top talent Contribute insights to strengthen organizational effectiveness, productivity, and administrative efficiency Workplace Culture & Safety Participate actively in occupational health and safety initiatives, helping to optimize safe work practices Champion a workplace culture grounded in diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect HR Administration Prepare employment agreements, offer letters, reports, and other HR documentation Support offboarding processes, including termination and severance documentation Maintain accurate, confidential employee records in compliance with employment standards Perform additional HR duties as assigned The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding and interest in indigenous culture, history, and the distinct challenges facing communities, paired with strong knowledge of the historical, political, and legal landscape.
You will demonstrate exceptional tact, diplomacy, and discretion when navigating sensitive or confidential matters, and apply sound judgment and creativity to complex problemsolving.
This role requires someone who can analyze and synthesize multifaceted information, offer timely and practical guidance aligned with organizational priorities, and manage multiple projects with clarity and efficiency. A clean Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerable Sector and the ability to travel domesticallysometimes on short noticeare essential.
