Your Opportunity A Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family care on an acute surgical unit in accordance with RAH and AHS policy and procedures. PCU 21 is a 28-bed unit providing care to bariatric, urology and general surgery patients. Patients are received from the operating room, emergency department, intensive care units, and directly from medical clinics.About the Team Staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital serve a unique inner city population and we want to do it well. The surgery inpatient program maintains the expectation that all employees do so with pride, compassion, and respect. We implement CoAct with Care Hub nursing on all shifts with registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and health care aids working collaboratively to their full scope of practice.Responsibilities RNs are expected to direct and monitor the care provided by health care aids and support their LPN peers. RNs are expected to take on the responsibility of charge nurse as required. Must be able to think critically and respond to emergency situations. Position requires candidates to perform moderate to heavy work on a regular basis in order to ensure safe patient care and safety of unit staff. All staff are required to assist with mobilization of patients with a variety of ambulation needs and disabilities. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe,



quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values.Eligibility & Qualifications Completion of an accredited nursing education program.Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.Minimum 2 year inpatient surgery experience.Solid capacity for self-directed work and teamwork.IV, PCA, epidural, TPN, drains, and wound care experience required.Excellent organizational, interpersonal communication, and priority setting skills required.Reliable and able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.Basic computer skills are required.If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the past five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required prior to employment: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1‐4) and NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification.Preferred Qualifications 1‐2 years of experience in urology or general surgery preferred.Charge nurse experience an asset.Compensation & Schedule Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.Shift pattern: nights, weekends. Days off as per rotation. Hours per shift 11.08. Length of shift in weeks 12. Shifts per cycle 40. Temporary employee class: full time. FTE 1.00. Temporary end date May 1, 2027.Minimum salary: $44.56 per hour. Maximum salary: $60.98 per hour. Vehicle requirement: not applicable.Additional Information Successful candidates will be expected to participate in quality improvement initiatives at the front line; supporting and maintaining high quality patient care strategies within the surgery program.
