**Job Title: Fabrication Supervisor**
**Job Description**
The Fabrication Supervisor leads the fabrication shop by overseeing the lead hand and fabrication team, coordinating daily operations, and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to high quality standards.
This role combines hands-on metal fabrication and welding work with supervisory and administrative responsibilities, including scheduling, training, tooling management, and close collaboration with operations, quality, procurement, and design teams.
Approximately 80–90% of the role is hands-on in the shop, with 10–20% focused on planning, documentation, and coordination.
**Responsibilities**
Oversee the lead hand and fabrication team to ensure smooth daily operations in the shop.
Delegate daily tasks to all shop personnel and monitor progress to meet production targets.
Assist in scheduling projects in alignment with the Master Production Schedule.
Manage all shop tooling and maintenance to ensure equipment remains safe, reliable, and available.
Lead and support the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC), ensuring monthly meetings take place and safety practices remain current.
Conduct and lead daily shop production meetings to review priorities, progress, and any issues.
Plan and oversee training for all shop personnel, ensuring each team member receives the appropriate level of training to succeed in their role.
Schedule shop needs such as crane loadings, transport trucks, audits, and testing, ensuring these activities stay within project budgets.
Work closely with Operations and Quality teams to complete all project redlines and finalize documentation.
Support Operations in hiring and terminating employees as needed, contributing to building a strong shop team.
Collaborate with Operations to ensure each job has the proper staffing levels and resources to achieve on-time completion.
Work closely with the Operations Manager to confirm and implement best practices across the shop.
Coordinate with Procurement and Project Management teams to obtain required parts and materials in the correct sequence for each project.
Collaborate with the Design team to review drawings and ensure best build practices are applied in fabrication and assembly.
Lead and participate in the manufacturing team's activities to ensure quality control meets high company standards.
Provide strong leadership to shop personnel by modeling and reinforcing the company's core values of Safety, Teamwork, Quality, Fun, and Customer Focus.
Adhere to and enforce safety standards and procedures in a continuously changing working environment.
Contribute hands-on expertise in fabrication, welding, and mechanical assembly of large steel structures as part of daily shop work.
Monitor production performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and safety within the shop.
**Essential Skills**
10–20 years of experience in metal works, including fabrication and welding.
3–5 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a production or fabrication environment.
Proven hands-on experience with welding, including MIG welding, in a steel fabrication setting.
Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to help build large steel structures and understand mechanical assemblies.
Experience in supervision and production management within a machine shop or fabrication shop.
Solid background working with steel fabrication processes and equipment.
Familiarity with CWB and W47.1 standards related to welding and structural steel fabrication.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and fabrication blueprints.
Demonstrated commitment to safety and participation in health and safety initiatives such as JHSC.
Strong communication and coordination skills to work effectively with operations, quality, procurement, project management, and design teams.
Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop shop personnel in a quick-paced production environment.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
Experience working as a welder, mechanic, millwright, or similar mechanical trade in a steel fabrication environment.
Experience in production planning, scheduling, and resource allocation for shop operations.
Experience participating in or leading quality control initiatives in manufacturing or fabrication.
Comfort working in a role that is predominantly hands-on (approximately 80–90%) with 10–20% administrative and coordination duties.
Ability to manage multiple priorities such as tooling maintenance, training, scheduling, and documentation simultaneously.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot mechanical and production issues on the shop floor.
Experience coordinating external services such as crane operations, transport logistics, audits, and testing activities.
**Work Environment**
The role is based in a machine shop with a well-maintained work environment.
Work is primarily hands-on on the shop floor, involving fabrication, welding, and mechanical assembly of large steel structures using shop tooling, welding equipment, and material handling equipment such as cranes.
Dress is typical for a fabrication and machine shop setting, requiring appropriate workwear and personal protective equipment suitable for welding, fabrication, and mechanical work.
**Job Type & Location**
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brampton, ON.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $58.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
