The University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) is one of Canada's leading clinical, research, and teaching hospitals, providing specialized care to more than 700,000 patients annually from western and northern Canada. Services include cardiac sciences, neurosciences, surgery, medicine, orthopedics, renal, critical care, burns, transplant, trauma, and numerous ambulatory clinics. Care is delivered through a collaborative care model (COACT), team nursing, and Connect Care as the electronic health record. Clinical Nurse Educators (CNEs) and Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs) support orientation, specialty education, professional development, and practice initiatives. The program is committed to evidence-informed practice and quality improvement to enhance patient and family outcomes. The Clinical Nurse Educator advances excellence in patient care by promoting learning, professional growth, and continuous improvement. Working with operational leaders and frontline staff, the CNE assesses learning needs, develops and delivers educational programs, supports practice change, and facilitates competency development across multidisciplinary teams. This role supports staff caring for patients in General Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Family Medicine, Pulmonary, Hematology and Intermediate Care. Success in the role depends on strong teaching, coaching, mentoring, and change leadership skills. The successful candidate will support competency development for Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Health Care Aides, and Unit Clerks,

Description:

As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program.



Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:

Bachelor of Nursing (BN or BScN). Current registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Minimum five (5) years of recent acute care nursing experience including Emergency or Critical Care and Medicine. Minimum 2 years experience in education, staff development, preceptorship, teaching, coaching, mentoring, or skilled practice leadership. Proven ability to facilitate learning in both individual and group settings. Experience supporting practice change, quality improvement initiatives, or implementation of new programs and processes. Knowledge of adult learning principles and competency-based education. Strong interpersonal, presentation, facilitation, and communication skills. Excellent organizational, critical thinking, project management, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with technology-based learning platforms, Microsoft 365 software applications and Sharepoint. Established evaluation processes for their teaching effectiveness. Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in Nursing, Education, or a related field, with certification or education in Adult Education, Change Management, Quality Improvement, or similar. Experience as a CNE, leading change initiatives and developing educational programs, competency tools, and clinical resources. Knowledge of patient populations in General Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Hematology, Family Medicine, Pulmonary, and/or Intermediate Care. Ultrasound-guided IV insertion is an asset.
