Lead Carpenter — Build Big Things in the North

Unico Contractors is looking for an experienced, motivated Lead Carpenter to lead and deliver meaningful projects in Lutsel K’e and Yellowknife, NWT.

This is a full-time position with a competitive, experience-based wage. Tools, a truck, housing, benefits, RRSP matching, and relocation support are available for the successful candidate.

What You’ll Do

- Lead and complete renovation, maintenance, and new-construction projects in Lutsel K’e and Yellowknife
- Tackle varied, hands-on work including building levelling, framing, drywalling, painting, and general carpentry
- Read, interpret, and deliver work from construction plans and blueprints
- Collaborate with our Chief Estimator to help estimate projects accurately
- Supervise and support crew members, setting a high standard for workmanship, productivity, and safety
- Help maintain a respectful, positive, and well-organized work environment

What You Bring

- 10+ years of carpentry experience
- Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter certification
- Proven experience leading crews and maintaining safe worksites
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, tools, and renovation practices




- Confidence reading and interpreting plans and blueprints
- Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and practical judgment
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Physical ability to perform hands-on construction work
- A valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation
- Respect for—and enthusiasm about—living and working in an Indigenous community
