TITLE: CAFETERIA WORKER (BAKER/DINING ROOM) - 23.5 Hours

DEPARTMENT: Prince George Secondary School

REPORTS TO: Hospitality Foods Teacher (functionally) Principal (administratively)

WAGE: $26.98 - $28.29 hourly wage effective July 1, 2024

SUMMARY:

Under close supervision the Cafeteria Worker (Baker/Dining Room) is responsible for baking and dining room setup, assisting in kitchen food preparation, catering services, ordering of supplies, warewashing and general cleanup of the cafeteria kitchen and cafeteria equipment. The Cafeteria Worker (Baker/Dining Room) may also operate the cafeteria cash register. He/she works cooperatively with other staff, students and the public.

DUTIES:

- Prepares food for cooking and service.
- Bakes goods for cafeteria and catering as necessary.
- Demonstrates baking methods and related sound practices to students.
- Serves food in cafeteria or at catered functions.
- Assists with the unpacking and storage of foods.
- Helps to direct students in kitchen activities related to baking.
- Assists counter clerks with counter service when required.
- Assists the Hospitality Foods Teacher.
- Performs other food service functions or emergent duties.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, SKILLS

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of hotel/restaurant/catering food preparation and baking experience.




- Ability to perform basic food services functions including good basic physical health.
- Holds a B.C. Food Protected Certificate and has a comprehensive understanding of health safety standards relative to food services sanitation.
- Knowledge of the SuperHost Program and front of the house operation would be an asset.
- Ability to use courtesy and tact in the explanation of and discussion of information in contacts with public, parents, staff and students.
- Ability to perform individually and as part of a team.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally.
- Ability to plan and schedule work and organize the workload effectively.
- Ability to work with constant interruptions.
- Must enjoy working with high school aged students.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED (Cafeteria Worker – Baker/Dining Room) Kitchen utensils, kitchen food handling and related equipment, cash register. PHYSICAL ABILITIES

- Sufficient vision to operate cash register and cafeteria/kitchen equipment.
- Fundamental ability to operate kitchen equipment.
- Manual dexterity.
- Ability to lift and move materials and equipment up to 40 pounds.
