NEEDED FOR OCT 21st START
Global Cathodic Protection Inc. has been contracted by the City of Ottawa to complete maintenance work on their municipal watermains. Project to begin on Oct 21st and wrap up within 6-7 weeks. This is a very short term employment chance.
All candidates must live in Ottawa. There is NO travel allowance or hotel accommodations available.
Night shift for 3 weeks near end of project.
Job Duties – Swamper / Vac Truck Assistant
- Job Site Assistance
- Assist Vacuum Truck Operator with setup, operation, and cleanup of hydro-vac excavation and debris removal tasks.
- Handle suction and high-pressure hoses during excavation, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
- Expose underground utilities, pipelines, and watermains under direction of the operator.
- Support utility daylighting, trenching, and non-destructive digging activities.
- Labour & Material Handling
- Assist in loading and unloading materials, hoses, and equipment.
- Remove debris, soil, and slurry from work areas.
- Perform general labour duties such as shoveling, backfilling, and compacting as required.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout the shift.
- Traffic & Site Safety
- Set up and maintain traffic control (cones, signs, flagging) to create a safe work zone.
- Ensure public, crew, and equipment safety during operations.
- Spot trucks and equipment when backing up or maneuvering on-site.
- Vehicle & Equipment Support
- Assist operator with daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections (hoses, valves, tools, fittings).
- Clean truck, hoses, and tools at the end of the workday.
- Perform minor equipment checks and report any mechanical or safety issues.
- Ensure tools and supplies are stocked,
organized, and ready for use.
- Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company health and safety policies, OHSA regulations, and client-specific requirements.
- Wear proper PPE at all times and ensure others are compliant within the work zone.
- Report hazards, incidents, or unsafe conditions immediately.
- Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and toolbox talks.
- Other Duties
- Support Vac Truck Operator and crew with additional labour tasks as directed.
- Assist with paperwork, site documentation, or disposal records when required.
- Must be physically fit as job requires long days, standing, bending, squating etc.
There is no work with Global Cathodic Protection Inc. after this project in 2026. You will be laid off at the end of the project. This is a very short term employment opportunity.
All candidates must wear appropriate PPE including Hard Hat, Safety Boots and High Visibility Vest. Global will supply eye protection, gloves and ear buds. All employees must complete on-line mandatory safety courses (prior) before start date. Valid G license is mandatory.
