Kawartha Lakes Construction | Lakefield, Ontario
Kawartha Lakes Construction is looking for a Sales Consultant who can help the right clients move through a major residential construction decision with confidence, clarity, and discipline.
This is not a quote-taking role. It is not a pressure-closing role. It is not a role for someone who believes every inquiry should become a proposal.
KLC is a premium residential builder and renovation company based in Lakefield, Ontario. We work on custom homes, major renovations, cottages, boathouses, garages, estate properties, smaller projects, and ongoing Small Projects & Estate Care services across the Kawarthas.
We are not a volume builder. We do not compete by being the cheapest. We compete through trust, judgment, professionalism, disciplined process, craftsmanship, and premium execution.
Our promise is straightforward: A place you’ll love.
About the Role
The Sales Consultant is responsible for qualifying prospective clients, understanding their goals and concerns, testing fit, discussing budget and decision process, and moving the right opportunities into KLC’s process.
This role is about disciplined qualification, not just activity. The right person will know how to ask good questions, set clear expectations, avoid unpaid consulting, protect internal team capacity, and help clients determine whether KLC is the right fit for their project, property, and expectations.
You will work closely with Front Desk / inside sales, Project Developers, estimating, production, finance, senior leadership, and ownership.
Who Will Thrive in This Role
You may be a strong fit if you:
- Have experience in consultative, relationship-based sales.
- Understand that residential construction is personal, emotional, and high-trust. Clients are not just buying a project; they are making decisions about their property, family, lifestyle, money, and peace of mind.
- Are comfortable asking direct questions about budget, timing, decision process, and fit.
- Build trust through clarity, not pressure.
- Understand that not every lead is a good opportunity.
- Can respectfully say no or slow down when the fit is not right.
- Are disciplined with CRM, follow-up, notes, and next steps.
- Understand that sales promises affect the teams who later develop, estimate, schedule, and build the work.
- Want to represent a premium local company with a strong reputation.
Who Will Not Thrive in This Role
This role is likely not right if you:
- Prefer to quote quickly to keep prospects interested.
- Avoid budget conversations.
- Believe every inquiry should move to a proposal.
- Rely mainly on charm or persistence.
- Dislike CRM or structured sales process.
- Use pressure, urgency, or discounting as your primary sales method.
- Think the handoff to internal teams is someone else’s problem.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to and qualify prospective clients.
- Conduct structured discovery around goals, pain, timing, budget, decision process, and fit.
- Qualify opportunities across KLC’s service areas, including custom homes, renovations, cottages, boathouses, garages, estate properties, smaller projects, and Estate Care.
- Establish clear expectations for each sales conversation and next step.
- Discuss budget and investment readiness before deeper estimating, design, or proposal effort.
- Identify decision-makers and ensure the right people are involved.
- Respectfully redirect, nurture, disqualify, or close out poor-fit opportunities.
- Maintain accurate and current CRM records.
- Create clean handoffs into KLC’s project development or appropriate internal process.
- Protect KLC’s time, capacity, margin, reputation, and client experience.
- Participate in pipeline reviews, coaching, role-play, and sales process improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in consultative, relationship-based sales.
- Experience working in, selling into, or supporting the residential construction, renovation, home services, real estate, design-build, architecture, or premium property services space.
- Strong questioning, listening, and follow-up skills.
- Comfortable discussing money, timing, decision process, and fit.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- CRM discipline and comfort working with a defined sales process.
- Ability to work well with operations, technical, estimating, project, finance, and leadership teams.
- High integrity, professional judgment, and client-service maturity.
Strongly Preferred
- Direct experience in residential construction, renovations, custom homes, cottages, boathouses, garages, estate properties, design-build, architecture, premium home services, or high-value property services.
- Sandler or similar sales methodology experience.
- Experience selling complex, high-trust, high-investment services.
- Familiarity with cottages, waterfront properties, renovations, boathouses, estate properties, and long-term client relationships in the Kawarthas.
- Experience managing longer sales cycles and multiple decision-makers.
What KLC Offers
- A premium local brand with a strong reputation.
- Meaningful work with clients making important family, property, and lifestyle decisions.
- A disciplined sales and operating system.
- Access to experienced project development, estimating, construction, finance, and leadership support.

- Competitive compensation aligned with experience and role scope.
- The opportunity to help build a scalable sales function as KLC grows.
