In-Home K-8 Tutor-Mentor - Autism & Learning Support - West Ottawa
We are currently hiring multiple experienced in-home Tutor-Mentors across West Ottawa, with a particular need in Kanata, Stittsville, Nepean, and Barrhaven.
We are looking for Tutor-Mentors who are comfortable supporting elementary-aged students with a range of learning, developmental, behavioural, and communication needs, including students on the autism spectrum.
The Tutor-Mentor Position
At TutorBright, our tutors are also mentors, which is why we call this position Tutor-Mentor. Tutor-Mentors help students strengthen their academic skills while also building confidence, independence, resilience, and a more positive relationship with learning.
Our Tutor-Mentors create engaging and supportive sessions that are adapted to each student's individual strengths, needs, and learning style.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience working with children with diverse learning or developmental needs
- Experience supporting children on the autism spectrum
- Familiarity with ADHD, learning differences, language, communication, behavioural, or developmental needs
- Experience tutoring, teaching, mentoring, coaching, or working with children
- A patient, calm, encouraging, and consistent approach
- The ability to adapt activities, explanations, and instructions for different learners
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Reliable transportation to students' homes in Kanata, Stittsville, Nepean, Barrhaven, and surrounding West Ottawa communities
- Current or completed university or college education
Preferred Educational or Professional Background
It would be especially helpful if you are studying or have completed education in one of the following areas:
- Psychology
- Education or teachers' college
- Early childhood education
- Child and youth care
- Behavioural science
- Developmental services
- Speech-language sciences
- Social work
- Occupational therapy or related studies
- Child development
- A related field involving education, learning, or developmental support
Tutoring Requirements
Tutor-Mentors should be comfortable supporting:
- Kindergarten to Grade 8 Math
- Kindergarten to Grade 8 English
- Homework and general academic skill development
- Students with autism
- Students with ADHD or learning differences
- Students with language delays or communication needs
- Students who may benefit from additional structure, repetition, encouragement, or individualized learning strategies
Experience supporting multiple types of learning or developmental needs is a strong asset.
