Silver Star Animal Care Clinic
Canada
Privately Owned. Owner-Led. No Evenings. No Weekends. No On-Call.
3–5 days/week | 30-minute appointments | Medicine + surgery | $90,000–$140,000
We’re looking for another veterinarian to join us at Silver Star Animal Care Clinic.
We’re a privately owned small animal practice, and we care a lot about the kind of clinic we’re building.
We want to practice excellent, evidence-based medicine without making veterinary medicine harder than it already is. That means good support, enough time with patients, clear communication, useful systems, and a team that genuinely works together.
Some days are very busy. But we’re organized, well-equipped, appropriately staffed, and constantly looking at how we can make things work better.
And we actually like each other.
There’s a lot of laughing here. There’s also a lot of collaboration, interesting medicine, weird cases, honest conversations, and people jumping in when someone needs a hand.
We take the medicine seriously. We don’t take ourselves too seriously.
The Job
This can be a part-time or full-time position, 3–5 days per week, depending on what you’re looking for.
Your week can include a balance of:
- General medicine
- Internal medicine workups
- Surgery
- Dentistry
- Preventive and wellness care
- Urgent cases
Appointments are 30 minutes, with support staff helping start and finish appointments so you can spend your time where your DVM brain is actually needed.
No evenings. No weekends. No on-call.
We want our veterinarians to have a life outside the clinic.
The Clinic
We built Silver Star from the ground up and have invested heavily in having the equipment we actually want to practice with.
Our modern 3,200+ sq. ft. hospital includes:
- Five exam rooms, including a dedicated cat room and comfort room
- Digital full-body radiography
- Digital dental radiography
- GE LOGIQ ultrasound
- Full IDEXX in-house laboratory
- Tono-Pen
- PetMAP monitoring
- Bionet monitoring
- Hydraulic lift tables
- Heated surgery and dental tables
- Heated kennels
- Separate dog and cat wards
We have skilled RVTs and support staff who are expected to use their training, take ownership of their roles, and support our doctors properly.
The Medicine
We believe in evidence-based medicine, good diagnostics, thoughtful clinical reasoning, and honest conversations with owners.
We’re not interested in practicing medicine by habit simply because “that’s how we’ve always done it.”
We ask questions. We look things up. We discuss cases. We send imaging out. We use specialists. We change our minds when better evidence comes along.
We also understand that excellent medicine has to exist in the real world. Clients have different finances, priorities, fears, and circumstances. Our job is to educate them, give them good options, and help them make informed decisions without judgment.
The Team
Culture matters here. A lot.
We want people who are kind without being passive, confident without having an ego, and capable of communicating directly when something isn’t working.
Our RVTs and support staff are important members of the medical team, and we expect them to be treated that way.
We help each other. We laugh a lot. We celebrate the wins. We talk about the mistakes. We keep trying to get better.
We are also still growing.
Not every system is carved in stone, and honestly, we don’t want it to be. If there is a smarter way to do something, we want to hear it.
If you need a clinic where nothing ever changes, we probably aren’t your place.
If you like being part of building something really good, you might be.
Who We’re Looking For
You don’t need to practice exactly like we do.
You do need to care about why you’re doing what you’re doing.
You’ll probably fit in well here if you:
- Value evidence-based medicine and continued learning
- Communicate clearly and kindly with clients
- Treat support staff with genuine respect
- Can laugh at work
- Are comfortable asking for another opinion
- Enjoy a mix of medicine, surgery, dentistry, and the unexpected
- Can adapt when a busy day changes course
- Want to contribute ideas rather than simply clock in and out
- Believe veterinary medicine can be both high quality and a sustainable career
Newer graduates are welcome to apply. Experienced veterinarians are very welcome too.
We care much more about finding the right person than filling a position as quickly as possible.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $90,000–$140,000, depending on experience and schedule.
We also offer:
- CE allowance
- Paid vacation
- Extended health benefits
- Staff discount
- A schedule designed to leave room for an actual life
- No evenings
- No weekends
- No on-call
Why Silver Star?
Because we’re trying to build the kind of veterinary clinic we would want to work in ourselves.
Excellent medicine.
Good people.
Strong support.
Interesting days.
Room to grow.
A healthy amount of ridiculousness.
And a workplace where you can care deeply about what you do without veterinary medicine consuming your entire life.
If that sounds like what you’ve been looking for, apply through Indeed or reach out directly for a confidential conversation.
We’d genuinely like to meet you.
