Overview
The Steel Building Erector will perform the erection and installation of pre-engineered metal buildings, including structural steel frames, rafters, columns, purlins, girts, bracing, roof panels, wall panels, trims, and related components. The position requires the ability to read erection drawings, work safely at heights, operate access equipment, perform accurate bolted and screwed connections, complete field fitting and cutting, and work efficiently as part of a coordinated erection crew.
Duties
- Read and interpret steel building erection drawings and manufacturer instructions
- Identify, sort, and stage structural members and building components
- Assist with layout and verification of column and frame locations
- Erect structural steel columns, beams, rafters, and rigid frames
- Install secondary framing including purlins, girts, eave members, and bridging
- Install temporary and permanent bracing systems
- Bolt and fasten structural steel connections
- Assist with crane, telehandler, and lifting operations
- Guide and position steel members during erection
- Plumb, level, align, and square structural frames
- Install roof sheeting and metal wall cladding
- Perform field cutting and fitting of panels where required
- Install panels around doors, windows, framed openings, and penetrations
- Install trims, flashings, closures, and sealants where included in scope
- Install roof and wall fasteners in accordance with manufacturer specifications
- Complete panel laps and weatherproofing details
- Work from boom lifts, scissor lifts, ladders, and elevated work platforms
- Operate hand tools, impact drivers, grinders, drills, and metal-cutting equipment
- Inspect installed work for alignment, fastening, damage, and deficiencies
- Report missing, damaged, or incorrectly fabricated materials
- Maintain proper material handling and protect panels from damage
- Follow erection sequencing established by the site supervisor or foreman
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Follow fall-protection, rigging, lifting, and site safety procedures
- Participate in daily safety meetings and toolbox talks
- Coordinate work with other members of the erection crew
- Assist with deficiency corrections and final building completion
- Maintain productivity targets while meeting quality and safety requirements
- Follow all project drawings, manufacturer requirements, and supervisor instructions
Experience
- Previous experience erecting pre-engineered metal buildings
- Experience installing structural steel columns, beams, rafters, and rigid frames
- Experience installing secondary steel including purlins, girts, eave members, and bracing
- Experience with metal roof and wall cladding installation
- Experience installing trims, flashings, closures, and sealants
- Experience reading and interpreting erection drawings and structural plans
- Experience working safely at heights
- Experience using fall-protection equipment
- Experience operating or working from boom lifts and scissor lifts
- Experience with telehandlers and material-handling equipment
- Experience assisting with crane lifts and steel positioning
- Experience using impact drivers, drills, grinders, saws, and metal-cutting tools
- Experience with bolted and screwed steel connections
