The Opportunity

Our client, an established and growing Canadian family-owned business, is looking for an experienced Controller to lead its accounting and financial operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on financial leader who enjoys being close to the business, collaborating directly with senior management and turning financial information into meaningful business insight. You will oversee the full accounting function while strengthening reporting, controls and processes to support the company’s continued growth.

The organization operates within the agricultural sector, supporting Ontario’s livestock and grain industries. It offers a stable, team-focused environment where employees are valued and contributions are noticed.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

- Overseeing the company’s accounting and financial functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and fixed assets
- Leading month-end and year-end close processes
- Preparing and analyzing monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements
- Ensuring accurate inventory counts and valuations
- Developing and maintaining effective accounting policies and internal controls
- Leading annual budgeting and forecasting
- Monitoring financial performance and providing meaningful analysis and recommendations to management
- Managing cash flow, banking relationships and other financial arrangements
- Coordinating year-end reviews or audits and serving as the primary contact for external accountants and auditors
- Ensuring compliance with tax filings, government reporting and accounting requirements
- Leading, supporting and developing members of the accounting team




- Partnering with department leaders to support planning and operational decisions
- Identifying opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting systems and financial controls
- Supporting special projects and broader business initiatives as required

What You Bring

- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or a related field
- A CPA designation
- At least five years of progressive accounting or finance experience
- Previous supervisory or financial leadership experience
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls and regulatory compliance
- Experience within agriculture, manufacturing, inventory-based operations or a related industry would be an asset
- Strong proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Excel
- Excellent analytical, organizational and problem-solving abilities
- A practical, hands-on leadership style with strong attention to detail
- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Confidence working independently while collaborating closely with senior management and other departments
- A high level of accuracy, discretion and professional integrity
