Position Summary
The Risk Officer is a mid-level professional within the Risk Management Department of the Toronto branch, responsible for assisting the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) in the daily risk management activities. This role supports risk identification, assessment, monitoring, reporting, and mitigation efforts to ensure compliance with OSFI regulatory requirements, Basel standards, and the bank’s global risk policies. The Risk Officer plays an essential role in safeguarding the branch’s assets and reputation by helping enforce strong risk controls and promoting a risk-aware culture throughout the branch.
Major Responsibilities
Risk Identification & Assessment
· Assist in identifying and assessing credit, operational, market, liquidity, reputational, compliance, and emerging risks across branch operations.
· Support the preparation and maintenance of risk registers, risk assessments, and scenario analyses.
· Help evaluate new product, service, and business initiatives from a risk perspective, ensuring alignment with risk appetite and policies.
· Participate in risk issue investigations and support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Risk Monitoring & Reporting:
· Monitor key risk indicators (KRIs) and risk limits to flag potential risk exposures or breaches early.
· Support the preparation of periodic risk reports for the Risk Management Committee, senior management, and Head Office.
· Assist in the execution of risk monitoring programs, control testing, and validation of risk mitigating measures.
· Collaborate with audit, compliance, and other control functions to address risk and control gaps.
Policy & Regulatory Compliance Support:
· Assist in maintaining and updating risk management policies, procedures, and frameworks in line with OSFI regulations, Basel guidelines, and Canadian financial laws.
· Support timely responses to regulatory inquiries, examinations, and audit findings relating to risk matters.
· Help ensure ongoing compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements, including operational risk and liquidity risk frameworks.
Risk Governance & Stakeholder Engagement
· Support the Risk Management Committee activities and follow up on action items arising from risk meetings.
· Coordinate with business units to promote risk awareness and embed risk management practices into daily operations.
· Act as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders including regulatory bodies, auditors, and Head Office risk teams.
· Contribute to cross-functional projects aimed at enhancing risk management capabilities and operational resilience.
Risk Culture & Training
· Participate in risk-related training programs and initiatives to enhance personal and team risk competencies.
· Support initiatives that promote a strong risk culture, ensuring transparency, accountability, and informed decision making.
Other Duties
· Assist or participate in special projects to improve risk management effectiveness, regulatory compliance, and operational resilience as assigned by senior management.
· Stay abreast of evolving regulatory developments, industry best practices, and emerging risks to continuously refine the risk management framework.
Other job requirements
1. Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in risk management, compliance, audit,
or related roles within corporate/wholesale banking or regulated financial institutions, preferably in Canada.
2. Solid understanding of OSFI risk guidelines (e.g., B-10, B-6), Basel III/IV principles, and Canadian banking regulations.
3. Knowledge of credit, operational, market, liquidity, and enterprise risk management concepts.
4. Experience in preparing risk reports, conducting risk assessments, and supporting regulatory examinations is preferred.
5. Solid analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
6. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to interact professionally across various levels and departments.
7. Bilingual proficiency in English and Mandarin is a strong advantage, given interaction with Taiwan Head Office and local teams.
8. Relevant professional designations (e.g., FRM, CFA, MBA) are a plus.
9. Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with risk management systems or data analytics tools is preferred.
Reports to
1. Chief Risk Officer & Risk Management Division in Head Office, i.e. H.O. CRO.
2. Provides risk-related reports to the Head Office and Risk Committee.
3. Responsible as contact for OSFI and other regulators.
Work Environment
1. Primarily office-based role in Toronto with frequent virtual and occasional in-person coordination with Taiwan Head Office and Canadian counterparts.
2. Standard business hours with flexibility for extended hours to meet regulatory deadlines, Head Office reporting, and urgent client matters.
3. Occasional business travel for training, regulatory meetings, or interoffice collaboration.
Pay: $72,000.00-$110,000.00 per year
