Technical Marketing Director
Katusa Research | Vancouver, BC (hybrid option for qualified candiates) | Full-time
Katusa Research is one of the largest independent financial research publishers in the world.
Marin Katusa's research reaches hundreds of thousands of investors, and the entire machine — publishing, subscriptions, marketing, client campaigns — runs on a stack we own outright.
We're hiring one person to run that machine, with no committees and nobody between you and shipping.
This is a builder's role with a director's mandate: you'll write code on Monday, review ad spend on Tuesday, and fix a deliverability problem on Wednesday.
If you've spent years being the technical person marketers ignore, or the marketer engineers ignore, this is the job where both halves finally count.
What you'll own
The platform
WordPress and WooCommerce, hosted on Rocket.net behind Cloudflare. You'll own performance, uptime, security, plugin architecture, and custom development — hands-on, in PHP and JavaScript, not through an agency.
Lead generation and tracking
You'll build and maintain the acquisition funnels: landing pages, opt-in flows, checkout, upsells. Every dollar of paid spend gets tracked from first click to lifetime value — pixels, server-side tracking, UTM discipline, attribution that survives iOS updates and ad blockers.
Email and CRM
Our email list (400k+) is the core asset of the business. You'll own list health, segmentation, deliverability, automation flows, backend monetization (renewals, winbacks, upgrade paths), and the CRM that ties subscriber behavior to revenue.
Paid acquisition
You know the playbook the big financial publishers run — Agora, MarketBeat, Stansberry — and you can run it here. That means Meta, Google, and native on one side, and publisher-side acquisition on the other: list rental and dedicated email drops, co-registration, paid placements in other investment newsletters, CPL lead buys, and affiliate and revshare deals with other publishers. You'll manage the budgets, negotiate the deals, vet list quality, and kill what doesn't convert.
Copywriting
You'll write and test direct response copy — email lifts, advertorials, landing pages, subject lines — and run a disciplined A/B testing program on all of it. You don't need to be our lead copywriter, but you need to write well enough to ship a campaign without waiting on one.
Public company campaigns
Investor awareness campaigns for reputable publicly traded companies, end to end — landing pages, email drops, paid traffic, reporting — with disclosure and compliance baked in.
What you've done before
- 6+ years shipping production code, with WordPress/WooCommerce experience (custom plugins and themes, not just configuring page builders)
- Run meaningful paid budgets ($75K+/month) with direct accountability for CAC and ROAS, including third-party list and placement buys — not just platform ads
- Written direct response copy that sold something, and can show it
- Built tracking and attribution systems— you can explain the difference between a platform-reported conversion and a real one
- Managed a large email list (400K+), kept it landing in the inbox, and know your way around CASL and CAN-SPAM
- Comfortable with Cloudflare (DNS, WAF, caching rules, workers) and managed hosting environments
- Bonus: experience in financial publishing, newsletters, or promoting public companies
What working here is like
Small team, fast decisions, no committees.
You'll work directly with the founders and the editorial/analyst team.
The metrics are yours to own and yours to brag about: list growth, revenue per subscriber, CAC, campaign ROI.
Build something that works and it scales the same month — there's real budget behind good ideas here. Our office is in Vancouver, BC; hybrid arrangements are available for qualified candidates.
Compensation:
$95K–$110K base plus an uncapped performance bonus tied to the revenue you drive.
The base keeps the lights on; the bonus is where this role pays.
If you're good, you'll know exactly why — you built the tracking.
Beyond salary and bonus: Marin Katusa is one of the most active financiers in the resource sector, and this desk sits beside that deal flow every day. You'll see how financings actually get done — an education most marketers never get. The rest is a conversation for the final interview.
To apply:
Send a resume plus one paragraph or link on the best funnel you've ever built — what it did, what it cost, what it returned.
Pay: $95,000.00-$110,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Dental care
- Extended health care
- Paid time off
Application question(s):
- Which of the following have you marketed for or within?
Select all that apply.
1) A financial newsletter or investment research publisher
2) A publicly listed company (investor awareness, IR or sponsored campaigns), or selling such campaigns to public companies
3) A regulated financial services business (brokerage, wealth management, lending)
4) A high-ticket subscription or information product ($1,000+)
5) None of the above
- What is the largest email list you have been personally responsible for?
Name the platform, and describe one deliverability or backend-revenue problem you fixed on it, with the numbers before and after.
- This role is in office five days a week at 800 West Pender Street, Vancouver. Can you work on-site full-time, starting within 60 days? If no, why not.
- Have you personally owned (not supported or advised on) a paid-media budget of $50,000 per month or more, with direct accountability for cost per lead, cost per acquisition or CAC?
- Describe the best funnel YOU built.
Include the monthly budget, the channels, the cost per lead and cost per sale, what it returned, how you tracked and attributed the results, and which parts of it you built yourself versus handed to a developer.
