Position Summary

The Adult Education Pathways and Graduation Advisor supports adult learners in developing clear, achievable pathways toward earning an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or meeting other educational and career goals.

The Advisor works directly with learners to review their previous education, employment, training, life experience, and existing high school credits. The position helps determine appropriate course placement, identifies potential Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition opportunities, and develops individualized graduation plans.

The Advisor maintains regular communication with learners, monitors progress, supports student engagement, and works collaboratively with teachers, school administrators, community staff, and other support professionals.

The position plays an important role in helping adult learners understand graduation requirements, overcome barriers, remain connected to their studies, and successfully complete their education.

Qualifications

Education

- A diploma or degree in education, social services, Indigenous studies, counselling, student services, career development, community development, or a related field.
- A combination of relevant education and significant experience may be considered.
- Additional training in guidance, PLAR, adult education, academic advising, career counselling, or student success is an asset.




- Ontario College of Teachers certification is an asset but is not required unless the position is assigned responsibilities that require teacher certification.

Experience

- Experience working respectfully with Indigenous learners, communities, organizations and programs.
- Experience working in adult education, secondary education, student services, guidance, academic advising, employment services, or community-based programming.
- Experience supporting learners with graduation planning, credit recovery, PLAR, course selection, or educational transitions is preferred.
- Experience reviewing transcripts, tracking credits, maintaining student records, or preparing academic plans is an asset.

Knowledge and Skills

- Cultural awareness, humility, and respect for Indigenous knowledge, traditions, communities, and ways of learning.
- Knowledge of Ontario secondary school graduation requirements including Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition process.
- Understanding of adult education principles and the needs of mature learners.
- Ability to review transcripts, identify credit requirements, and develop graduation pathways.
- Strong relationship-building, student engagement and encouragement skills.
- Ability to explain complex information in clear and accessible language.
- Strong organizational, documentation, and follow-up skills.
- Ability to manage multiple learner files, deadlines, and priorities.
- Sound judgment, professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong computer skills, including email, spreadsheets, databases, virtual meeting platforms, and student information systems.
- Ability to prepare accurate reports and maintain confidential records.

Working Conditions





- The position will work summer hours to support the program schedules.
- The position may involve a combination of office-based, community-based, virtual, and classroom work.
- Evening or weekend work may be required to support adult learners and program schedules.
- Travel to First Nation communities and other KOBE locations is required and will involve small aircraft.
- Travel delays and changes are to be expected given the geographical location of our communities.
- The position requires regular computer use, telephone communication, virtual meetings, documentation, and data entry.
- The employee will be required to work collaboratively with KOBE departments as required to best support the students.

- Accurate and current learner graduation plans.
- Timely and respectful communication with learners.
- Properly documented PLAR assessments and credit recommendations.
- Improved student engagement, retention, and course completion.
- Accurate monitoring of credits and graduation requirements.
- Consistent follow-up with learners who are at risk of disengaging.
- Strong collaboration with teachers, administrators, communities, and support staff.
- Accurate student records, reports, and program data.
- Increased learner understanding of their pathway to graduation.
- Successful transition of learners into graduation, employment, training, apprenticeship, or post-secondary education.
