We are currently hiring part time Cooks at our Ho Lai Oi Wan Centre location in Markham.

Compensation will vary based on experience and certification. Part-time Cook II with a certificate will receive $22.02 - $24.56 and candidates without a certificate will receive $20.27 - $22.52

Job Description:

Prepares, portions and serves of quality food for residents in accordance with Ministry, Public Health and other regulations.

Qualifications:

- Completion of Chef Training diploma or diploma/certificate/apprenticeship in Culinary Management, Cook, Food and Nutrition or equivalent
- Current Food Handler Safety Certificate
- Minimum 3 years proven institutional cooking experience
- Familiarity with Asian cuisine and use of industrial size wok an asset.




- Practical and theoretical knowledge of quantity food production, and knowledge of sanitation and safety standards for food services area
- Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Screen
- Ability to communicate in English and Chinese (Mandarin and/or Cantonese) is required to cater to our Chinese-speaking residents

Responsibilities:

- Prepares and cooks food and snacks according to pre-determined requirements, palatability and menu/recipe, ensuring an appetizing appearance
- Pre-prepares menu items according to menu (regular and vegetarian)
- Inspects and tastes food for quality
- Accurately portions and serves food to residents
- Performs food preparation
- Complies with sanitary regulations in the food preparation process
- Maintains and cleans equipment. Maintains production areas, storage rooms and refrigeration areas are in a clean and organized condition
- Responsible for taking temperature log of refrigerator/freezer and food temperature
- Monitors food stock and makes timely report to management for replenishment
- Responsible for stock rotation
- Assists in receiving delivery and ensuring accuracy of order delivered
- Complies with risk management policy for health and safety and GHS
- Follows protocols to comply with standards from Ministry, public health and other regulatory body
- Keeps up-to-date with developments and best practices in the field
- Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

- Considerable standing, walking and lifting throughout the day
- Shift work, including weekend
- Exposed to heat, humidity and food waste

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $21.67-$23.05 per hour
