Job Purpose:

The Mechanical Estimator will contribute to the success of the team by identifying and estimating all direct and indirect costs of a project during the tendering process. Mechanical Estimator will be working on a full range of mechanical piping projects; industrial, commercial, government, and institutional.

Duties:

- Search for tenders through online portals and set up project folders.
- Read and understand Documents, Specifications and Addenda.
- Attend site/tender walk through to cross reference drawings to identify a proactive solution.
- Prepare scope of work in line with those in tender documents and update drawings as required.
- Distribute drawings as required during the tender process.
- Prepare accurate quantity piping takeoff and estimates.
- Send out invitations to subs and suppliers.
- Coordinate the review of drawings with sub-trades during the tendering process.
- Call sub-contractors and others in time for the tender to clarify their quotes.
- Obtain accurate information from vendors relating to shipment dates and expected dates of delivery.
- Determine customer requirements and expectations in order to recommend specific products and solutions.
- Prepare Bid Forms and proposals and assist clients with cost-saving recommendations.
- Stay up-to-date with new products/services and new pricing.
- Other duties as required.

Responsibilities:

- Responsible for procuring the most advantageous bids for each job, within the scope of work.
- Accountable for thorough review of project documents.




- Responsible for preparing accurate takeoffs and estimates and handling time-sensitive tasks.
- Preparation of cost estimates for each project, in coordination with management. Responsible to obtain as many appropriate bids as necessary for each job.
- Responsible for communication with sub-contractors to arrange bids.

Authority:

- Has authority to deal with suppliers and sub-trades to obtain the best bid within the scope of the project.
- Has authority to work with internal staff to generate labour and materials requirements necessary to prepare a bid.
- Has authority to discuss project opportunities with others in the local construction industry.

Qualification:

- 6 + years of related mechanical estimation experience.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Solid organizational and multitasking skills.
- Proven analytical skills with a focus on providing solutions.
- Bilingualism is an asset: French and English.
- Familiar with government policies and regulations related to the industry an asset.

Education:

- Post-secondary education in mechanical, construction management, architectural technology, or a related field.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
