5 Star Security Services is a Nova Scotia-based security company providing professional security services to supportive housing facilities, public venues, commercial properties, government agencies, and community organizations throughout the province.

We are currently looking for professional, dependable, and customer-service-oriented Security Guards to join our growing team in Dartmouth and Halifax.

Position Summary

As a Security Guard, you will help maintain a safe and secure environment for clients, staff, visitors, tenants, and the public.

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong communication, observation, professionalism, and de-escalation skills. Our guards work in a variety of environments, including supportive housing facilities and public venues.

As a 24/7 operation, we offer a variety of morning, evening, overnight, and weekend shifts.

Responsibilities

- Conduct interior and exterior security patrols.
- Monitor and control access to facilities and properties.
- Respond professionally to incidents, emergencies, and security concerns.
- Complete detailed incident reports, daily activity reports, and notes.
- Monitor CCTV and other security systems.
- Provide professional customer service and assistance to tenants, visitors, and clients.




- De-escalate conflicts and disruptive situations.
- Enforce site rules, policies, and procedures.
- Liaise with emergency services, management, and community partners when required.
- Follow site-specific post orders and operational procedures.
- Maintain a professional appearance and conduct at all times.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum 1 year of experience in security, safety, law enforcement, military, corrections, healthcare security, or a related field.
- Solid verbal and written English communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to pass a Criminal Record Check.
- Meet eligibility requirements for a Nova Scotia Private Guard Licence.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Required Certifications

Applicants must have, or be willing to obtain before licensing:

- Basic Security Training
- First Aid, CPR & AED Certification
- Crisis Intervention & De-escalation Training
- Report Writing & Note Taking Training
- Fire Safety Training

Preferred Qualifications

The following are considered assets:

- Use of Force Certification
- Mental Health First Aid
- Security-related diploma, certificate, or post-secondary education
- Experience working in supportive housing, shelters,



healthcare, or other public-facing environments

5 Star Security Services supports employee development and may consider Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) endorsements for eligible employees after one year of successful employment, subject to company needs and applicable program requirements.

- Starting wage of $17.50/hour during the three-month probationary period.
