Our client, a growing construction firm based in Nanaimo, BC, is seeking a Senior Estimator to support its continued growth. This individual will serve as the company’s lead estimator, working alongside and mentoring a Junior Estimator.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the preparation of detailed estimates for projects ranging in value from $20,000 to more than $30 million.
- Review drawings, specifications, addenda, and other tender documents to determine project scope and requirements.
- Complete quantity takeoffs, pricing analyses, and bid submissions using Excel and Bluebeam.
- Solicit and evaluate quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Identify project risks, opportunities, exclusions, and potential cost-saving alternatives.
- Collaborate with project managers, clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers throughout the preconstruction process.
- Support project handovers from estimating to operations and provide ongoing estimating assistance when required.
- Mentor and provide guidance to the Junior Estimator.
- Maintain accurate historical pricing information and contribute to the ongoing improvement of estimating processes.
Ideal Candidate Requirements:
- 3+ of estimating experience with a general contractor or subcontractor.
- A degree or diploma in Construction Management, Engineering, Building Technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Solid ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
- Experience preparing estimates across a wide range of project sizes and levels of complexity.
- Proficiency with Excel and Bluebeam.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, subcontractor scopes, and pricing.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, communication, and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
- A Project Manager with substantial estimating and preconstruction experience may also be considered.
