Job Summary

Absolute Industrial Mechanical Ltd. has an immediate opening for a focused, detail-oriented Junior Mechanical Designer / Drafting Technologist to join our elite projects team.

Since 1999, we’ve been BC's premier specialists in process piping fabrication and heavy municipal upgrades. From our massive 17,000-square-foot fabrication facility in Mission, BC, we coordinate major projects across the province—including massive water reservoirs, upgraded PRV stations, pump station retrofits, and state-of-the-art treatment plants.

Right now, our projects team is heavily overloaded with work, and we need a dedicated CAD professional to step in, take absolute ownership of our AutoCAD drafting pipeline, and clear the drawing backlog. If you want a dynamic in-house role where your work directly drives real-world heavy industrial manufacturing, this is the crew for you.

Why Designers Choose #TeamAbsoluteIndustrial:

- Direct Shop & Field Impact: This isn't ordinary, detached office work. Your desk is located right at our headquarters, meaning you will see your 2D drawings turn directly into massive steel systems right on our shop floor.
- World-Class Facility Support: Our drawing office is integrated with a brand-new, state-of-the-art fabrication facility. Because we keep our structural welding and stainless steel pipe fabrication in separate, contamination-free bays, your drafting packages will guide highly streamlined, precise work.
- Unmatched Culture: We work hard, but we celebrate together. From our Annual Sturgeon Fishing Derby on the Fraser River to heavily celebrated holiday parties and community events, we take care of the crew that builds our success.
- Technical Growth: You will work directly with seasoned project managers and fabricators, mastering the complex nuances of industrial process mechanical design, spooling, and heavy industrial documentation.

The Role:

This is an in-person,

office-based production role. Located full-time at our Mission, BC headquarters, your primary mission will be to maintain the steady flow of fabrication-ready 2D production drawings, spool drawings, and schematic layouts. You will act as the vital bridge between engineering concepts and physical shop fabrication.

· Note: While our current design workflow is heavily focused on quick, accurate 2D drawing execution, we are actively looking toward the future. Candidates who bring 3D modeling experience will have a unique opportunity to help us transition and scale into 3D design workflows down the road.

Responsibilities:

- Drafting Production: Develop, revise, and finalize highly detailed 2D production and assembly drawings using AutoCAD.
- Isometrics & Spooling: Generate accurate piping isometric drawings, spool sheets, and layout schematics for our shop fabricators and field installation teams.
- Quality Control: Ensure all drawing packages conform to strict company standards, weld symbols, and relevant municipal/industrial piping codes.
- BOM Generation: Create, verify, and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for piping components, flanges, valves, pumps, and structural supports.
- Team Collaboration: Partner closely with project managers and the shop foreman to ensure drawing intent perfectly matches physical execution.

What You Bring:

- Education: Diploma in Mechanical Drafting / Engineering Technology,

or a Degree in Mechanical Engineering looking for heavy drafting execution experience.
- Software Proficiency: Sharp, accurate, and rapid 2D drafting skills in AutoCAD (Required).
- The 3D Advantage: Practical exposure or experience with 3D CAD modeling software (e.g., Plant 3D, SolidWorks, or Inventor) is a massive asset as we build toward future 3D capabilities.
- Piping Literacy: A robust foundational grasp of piping components (flanges, fittings, valves, pumps), instrumentation, and reading P&IDs.;
- Detail-Oriented: Exceptional spatial reasoning and attention to detail. You catch missing dimensions or tolerance conflicts before steel gets cut.
- Execution Mindset: A bulletproof positive attitude and a clear understanding that this role is heavily execution-focused on production drafting and clearing a high-volume pipeline rather than broad conceptual design.

What We Offer:

- Competitive standard hourly wages/salary commensurate with experience.
- Comprehensive medical and dental benefits package.
- A collaborative environment with a highly talented, close-knit team that values hard work and great team culture.

Work Location: In person (Mission, BC headquarters)
Work remotely: No
