Job Summary
Under the direction of the Manager of Community Support Services to provide Personal Care and Homemaking services to frail and/or cognitively impaired clients in the following programs: Supportive Housing, Home Help/Homemaking & Caregiver Support-Respite.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Provide personal care services by assisting client with activities of daily living such as:
· Bathing, mouth care, hair care, preventive skin care, changing dressings, routine hand/foot care, and supervision;
· Transferring/positioning/turning, dressing and undressing, assisting with eating, assisting with pre-measured medications, exercising, toileting (including empty/change leg bag, catheterization), bowel routines, tracheotomy care of stable person
· Documentation in care plan
Provide homemaking services:
· Light housekeeping duties such as vacuuming, dusting, mopping floors, cleaning surfaces of kitchens and bathrooms, doing laundry, ironing, mending;
· Meal planning and preparation
Maintain a protected and secure working environment by:
· Using proper body mechanics;
· Using safe lifting/transferring techniques;
· Practicing universal precautions;
· Reporting malfunctioning equipment;
· Recommending safety precautions such as: grab bars, bathing aids, etc., to the client
Job Type / Category
· All services are provided in the community or on campus (Castle Arms);
· Shifts are variable in nature and work schedule is Monday to Sunday and in accordance with collective agreement;
Required Education, Skills and Qualifications
To perform this job successfully,
an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
- Minimum of Personal Support Worker Certificate (PSW);
- Knowledge of the aging process;
- Ability to work with limited supervision;
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills;
- Demonstrate regular attendance in keeping with standards of Attendance Support Program
- Must be fluent in the English language to follow verbal and written instructions. Bilingualism is an asset.
- You have a satisfactory CPIC with vulnerable sector screening within six (6) months;
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
