CNC Plasma Table Operator
We are looking for a dependable, safety-focused CNC Plasma Table Operator to join our Fabrication Shop production team. This is a hands-on position responsible for processing steel and other materials using CNC plasma cutting equipment and supporting the efficient flow of material through the shop.
The successful candidate will be mechanically inclined, comfortable working from fabrication drawings and cut information, and committed to producing accurate, high-quality parts. This position requires someone who can work independently, stay organized, and understand that good plate processing has a direct impact on the productivity of the fabrication team that follows.
Key Responsibilities
- Review work orders, drawings, nesting information, material requirements, and cutting instructions before starting work.
- Set up and operate CNC plasma cutting equipment to produce parts in accordance with drawings and production requirements.
- Load, verify, and make minor adjustments to cutting programs and nests when required.
- Select and confirm the correct material type, grade, thickness, and plate before processing.
- Read and interpret fabrication drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and part identification requirements.
- Monitor cutting operations and make appropriate adjustments to maintain cut quality and productivity.
- Inspect completed parts using tape measures, squares, calipers, and other appropriate measuring equipment.
- Identify and mark completed parts with drawing numbers, part numbers, heat numbers, or other required traceability information.
- Maintain material traceability throughout the cutting and handling process.
- Safely operate overhead cranes and other material-handling equipment to load plate and remove finished parts and remnants.
- Organize completed parts for efficient transfer to fitting, welding, machining, or other downstream operations.
- Perform routine machine inspections, consumable changes, cleaning, and basic preventative maintenance.
- Identify equipment, quality, or material issues and communicate them promptly to supervision.
- Maintain an organized work area, including proper management of plate remnants, scrap, and finished parts.
- Follow company safety procedures, quality requirements, and established production practices.
- Work cooperatively with supervisors, fabricators, welders, and other departments to support production priorities.
Qualifications
- Previous experience operating CNC plasma cutting equipment, CNC machinery, or similar industrial production equipment is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and understand dimensions and tolerances.
- Comfortable using measuring equipment to verify finished parts.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to learn CNC controls, nesting software, and production systems.
- Mechanical aptitude and an understanding of steel fabrication or plate processing.
- Ability to safely operate overhead cranes and handle large plate and fabricated components.
- Solid attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work.
- Dependable, punctual, and capable of working independently with limited supervision.
- Able to work effectively as part of a production team in a busy fabrication environment.
Additional Assets
- Experience with Hypertherm CNC plasma systems and controls.
- Experience with plasma nesting or plate-processing software.
- Oxy-fuel cutting experience.
- Previous structural steel, miscellaneous metals, or custom fabrication experience.
- Forklift and overhead crane experience.
- Familiarity with material grades, plate identification, and heat-number traceability.
- Experience performing basic CNC equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their work, understands the importance of accuracy and material control, and can help keep production moving safely and efficiently. Candidates with strong CNC, fabrication, steel-processing, or industrial machine-operation experience are encouraged to apply.
