Director of Finance (Founding Team)
Join the founding team building Vancouver’s largest recent attraction, a year-round permanent landmark that celebrates Canada. In partnership with BRC Imagination Arts, this destination will anchor downtown Vancouver’s cultural landscape for decades to come.
As Director of Finance, you’ll be a core founding team member responsible for building and leading the finance function across two phases Construction and Ongoing Operations. You’ll bridge fund finance, investor relations, project accounting, and operational finance, with significant room to grow as the organization scales.
We’re looking for someone entrepreneurial, collaborative, and experienced, a builder who thrives in fast-moving environments and wants to help create a legacy asset for Vancouver and Canada.
Investor & Corporate Finance.
- Lead investor financial administration and reporting, including capital calls, distributions, and ongoing investor communications.
- Maintain accurate financial reporting, compliance, and audit readiness.
- Act as a key finance contact for investors, legal counsel, tax advisors, and auditors.
Development & Construction
- Establish the accounting systems, financial controls, policies, and reporting required for the development and construction phase.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow planning, scenario analysis, and monthly project reporting.
- Monitor project costs, commitments, contingencies, and cost-to-complete.
- Manage construction draws and lender reporting.
- Establish appropriate controls around procurement, change orders, contingencies, and retainage.
- Coordinate tax planning and compliance with external advisors.
Opening & Ongoing Operations
As the attraction approaches opening, you will help build the financial infrastructure of the operating business, including:
- Operational accounting systems and financial controls.
- Revenue accounting across ticketing, retail, food and beverage, events, and other revenue streams.
- Annual budgets,
rolling forecasts, KPI dashboards, and management and board reporting.
- Cash management, working capital, tax compliance, audits, and lender reporting.
- Financial analysis to support pricing, staffing, margins, capital allocation, and other key operating decisions.
- Continued development of the finance function and team as the organization grows.
About You
We expect the successful candidate will be a CPA with 7+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience and a track record of taking meaningful ownership within complex organizations or projects.
Experience in one or more of the following would be particularly valuable:
- Real estate development or construction
- Private equity, investment management, or fund finance
- Hospitality, tourism, entertainment, or other multi-revenue operating businesses
- Large-scale project or infrastructure finance
- LP/GP structures, investor reporting, and distribution waterfalls
You do not need to have worked in all of these areas. More important is strong financial and accounting judgment, an ability to learn quickly, and enthusiasm for building systems and solving problems in an entrepreneurial environment.
Why Join Agora Partners
This is not a traditional finance role.
You will join at the beginning of a major new Vancouver destination and have the opportunity to help shape both the project and the organization that will ultimately operate it.
You will work directly with the founders, leading investors, professional advisors, and world-class creative partners while building a finance function from the ground up.
The role offers significant scope to grow alongside the organization as we move from development and construction through opening and long-term operations.
Most importantly, you will have the opportunity to help create a destination intended to become a cornerstone of Vancouver's cultural landscape.
