Position: Intermediate Civil/Structural Engineer
Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Reporting To: Engineering Manager
Job Type: Regular full-time
We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Intermediate Civil / Structural Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality civil design solutions across a broad range of industries, including Oil & Gas, process and telecommunications facilities, as well as corporate, industrial, and manufacturing environments.
The Intermediate Civil / Structural Engineer shall develop/prepare engineering deliverables such as Site Layouts, Area Plot Plans, Grading and Drainage Drawings, Earthworks and Foundation Designs, Concrete Pad Design Calculations, Structural Steel and Connection Designs, Antenna and Equipment Mount Designs, Design Reports, Technical Specifications, Scope of Work, Material Requisition, Engineering and Construction Work Packages, Vendor Document Reviews, Inspection and Test Plans, Site Visits, Field Evaluation, and other engineering deliverables as required.
EDUCATION, SKILLS and EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in civil engineering design, with at least 4 years of relevant experience within Canada.
- At least 10 years of civil engineering design experience on one or more of the following areas:
- Site development – area plot plans, rough and finish grading, drainage, access roads and earthworks
- Geotechnical investigation scoping (borehole location plans) and geotechnical report review
- Shallow foundations – spread footings, equipment and generator concrete pads, precast pads
- Deep foundations – screw / helical and driven piles, pile layouts and pile caps
- Structural steel design – platforms, stairs, ladders, handrails, skids, equipment and pipe supports, and miscellaneous steel
- Connection, base plate and anchor bolt design
- Antenna-supporting structures – self-supporting and guyed towers, monopoles, antenna and GNSS mounts (CSA S37)
- Pre-engineered,
self-framed and modular buildings; assessment, repair and modification of existing structures
- Perform civil engineering analysis, prepare specifications, material take-offs, scopes of work, and engineering/construction work packages.
- Produce and review Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings and engineering design reports.
- Coordinate with various engineering disciplines, project managers, and construction teams to ensure seamless execution.
- Provide engineering support during the construction phase, including site visits for field inspections, measurements, assessments, and troubleshooting.
- Oversee preparation of as-built drawings and project close-out documentation.
- Review and evaluate designs and drawings from consultants and third-party vendors.
- Contribute to the development and standardization of calculation templates and project documentation to enhance team efficiency.
- Foster and maintain strong working relationships with clients, ensuring consistent communication and satisfaction.Qualifications
- Solid experience in designing earthworks and concrete structures.
- Knowledge of stormwater management, erosion and sediment control is an asset.
- Proficient in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and structural design software.
- Strong understanding of Canadian codes, standards, and permitting requirements.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with a drive for continuous improvement.
- Ability to manage priorities under pressure and deliver high-quality results on schedule.
- Effective communicator with strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare and review technical reports.
- Registered/eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the APEGA or with another Canadian province.
- Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
