SAKU, a Japanese Tonkatsu restaurant with locations in Vancouver and Toronto, is looking for a Kitchen Supervisor / Line Cook for our new Mississauga location, scheduled to open in October 2026.
We are looking for someone who can work as a key member of the kitchen team and gradually take on additional responsibilities in staff training, kitchen operations, inventory management, and shift supervision.

[Wage]
Starting at $19.00/hour + Tip
- Starting wage may be adjusted depending on previous kitchen experience.

[Working Hours]
Full-Time
- Approximately 3–5 days per week
- Shifts will be scheduled within the restaurant's operating hours.
- Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends, is preferred.

Our new Mississauga location is scheduled to open in October 2026. Once the location opens, Mississauga will become your primary work location.
Training Location – September to Opening
SAKU Edward
22 Edward St, Toronto, ON M5G 1C9
Before the Mississauga location opens, training will take place at our Downtown Toronto location, SAKU Edward, starting in September.
During this training period, you will learn SAKU's kitchen operations, recipes, cooking standards, food preparation procedures, opening and closing procedures, and Supervisor responsibilities.
Once the Mississauga location opens, you will transition to working at the Mississauga location.
[Main Responsibilities]
As a Kitchen Supervisor / Line Cook, your primary responsibility will be to perform daily kitchen operations while maintaining SAKU's food quality and operational standards.
Main duties include:
- Preparing and cooking Katsu and other menu items according to SAKU standards
- Food preparation and portioning
- Opening and closing kitchen duties
- Maintaining food quality and consistency
- Following recipes and portion standards
- Maintaining proper food safety and sanitation standards
- Cleaning and organizing kitchen equipment and workstations
- Monitoring prep levels and kitchen readiness
- Supporting smooth kitchen operations during service
- Training and supporting kitchen staff
- Supervising staff during assigned shifts
- Monitoring staff performance and providing appropriate feedback
- Assisting with inventory management
- Assisting with food and supply ordering
- Communicating operational issues with the Kitchen Manager and management team
- Taking responsibility for kitchen operations during assigned shifts
[Supervisor Responsibilities]
As you become familiar with SAKU's kitchen operations, you will gradually take on additional Supervisor responsibilities.
These may include:
- Training and supporting new employees
- Ensuring staff follow SAKU recipes and operational standards
- Monitoring food quality and consistency
- Checking kitchen cleanliness and food safety
- Managing kitchen workflow during busy service periods
- Supporting inventory counts and ordering
- Identifying operational issues and communicating them to management
- Taking responsibility as the Person in Charge when required
Full training on SAKU's operational and management systems will be provided.
[Requirements]
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada with a valid work permit/visa for at least 6 months
- Food Handler Certificate
- Previous kitchen or restaurant experience is preferred
- Previous Supervisor or leadership experience is an asset but not required
- Comfortable working in an workplace where Japanese may be spoken
- Responsible, reliable, and committed to your work
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Able to communicate effectively and work well as part of a team
- Comfortable training and supporting other staff members
- Able to stay organized and make appropriate decisions during busy service periods
- Good time-management skills and ability to work efficiently
- Strong awareness of cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety
- Flexible availability
