About the Client:

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver to support a father in his late 70s living with dementia in North Toronto. He was diagnosed approximately one year ago and has experienced progressive cognitive decline, including loss of verbal communication. While he remains mobile and can move around independently, he requires supervision for safety. His wife, who is in excellent physical and mental health, has been his primary caregiver but is now exhausted from the demands of full-time care. She needs reliable respite support so she can attend to errands, enjoy lunch with friends, and maintain her own well-being.

Responsibilities:

- Provide companionship and supervision to ensure the client's safety while his wife is away
- Accompany the client on drives, which he enjoys
- Assist with navigating stairs as needed
- Help with light tasks around the home to support the family
- Accompany the client and his wife to medical appointments when requested
- Maintain a calm, patient presence that helps the client feel comfortable and secure

What We're Looking For:

- Experience working with individuals living with dementia or Alzheimer's disease
- Patient, calm demeanor with strong supervision and safety awareness skills
- Ability to provide compassionate companionship and engage meaningfully with someone who is non-verbal
- Reliable driver with a valid license and access to a vehicle
- Robust communication skills to coordinate effectively with the family




- Someone who takes initiative, respects independence, and brings positive energy
- English-speaking
- Ability to reference and follow care documentation as needed

Schedule:

The family is seeking support 2-3 days per week for 3-4 hours per visit. They are flexible with timing and can work around your availability, whether that's morning or early afternoon. A consistent weekly schedule is preferred to establish routine and familiarity. Care is needed immediately, and the family is open to building the relationship over time as needs evolve.

Additional Considerations

Father is non-verbal due to aphasia diagnosis. Has family history of Alzheimer's on paternal side. Mother is primary caregiver in great physical and mental health but needs respite support. Father was previously very handy and independent. Bathroom currently being retrofitted for accessibility. Family has cottage property. Mother is independent and confident but needs emotional support and someone to discuss care decisions with.
