Civil Utility Labourer / Pipelayer Trainee – Full Time

Verity Construction is hiring a full-time Civil Utility Labourer / Pipelayer Trainee to join our Civil Services Division working on residential and commercial developments throughout Sooke and the Westshore area.

Verity Construction operates a dedicated Civil Services Division that performs underground utility installation, site servicing, and roadworks for residential and commercial developments throughout the Westshore and Sooke areas. Our crews install sewer, storm, water, and utility infrastructure for townhouse communities, condominium buildings, and mixed-use developments. We focus on safe, productive production sites with well-organized crews and steady long-term work.

This position is ideal for someone looking to build a long-term career in civil construction. You will start as a labourer working alongside experienced pipelayers and operators, with opportunities to learn underground utility installation and advance within the company.

We are looking for reliable individuals who show up on time, work hard, and take direction from the foreman.

Responsibilities

- Assist pipelayers, operators, and foremen with daily construction tasks
- Work alongside utility crews installing sewer, storm, and water systems
- Assist with excavation, pipe installation, backfilling, and compaction
- Operate a water truck for dust suppression and compaction activities
- Water roadways, gravel surfaces, and work areas as directed by the foreman
- Move and stage materials around the job site
- Shovel, rake, and compact materials to grade
- Assist with site preparation and finishing work




- Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Follow all site safety procedures and requirements

Requirements

- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence required
- Strong work ethic and reliability
- Ability to show up on time every day
- Ability to take direction and communicate with the team
- Ability to perform physical construction work
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Willing to work overtime when required
- Experience in civil construction, site servicing, or road construction is an asset
- Experience operating a water truck or other construction equipment is an asset
