We are a warm, busy family in Kitsilano looking for a part-time, long-term nanny to support both childcare and the day-to-day flow of our home. We recently lost my wonderful mom, who lived with us part time and was a big part of our daily life. We know there is no way to replace her love and care, but we also know we can’t function well with two full-time jobs and two active kids without some additional support.

The position is part-time, five days a week, with approximately four-hour shifts in the afternoon (roughly 1:30–5:30 pm), with some flexibility that we can set at the start. Our kids are in school/daycare in places we really love, so much of the role is not full-day childcare, but rather helping things run smoothly at home and supporting the afternoon transition.

A big part of the role is what I think of as “the sweep”—coming in a bit earlier to load/unload the dishwasher, start dinner, prepare lunches for the next day, tidy up kid-related messes, and throw in or fold a load of laundry. We would also value someone who is tracking the 'invisible' load involved with childcare, and could do extra things like run donations of kids clothes to the correct place, and grab any missing ingredients for lunch. We have a long term house cleaner who comes twice a month, so there is no heavy cleaning required.

On some days, we would ask you to head up to UBC (in our car) to pick up the kids and bring them home. Once home, this would include snack time, play,

and hanging out with them until we return, and helping us get through the dinner-time transition.

We have a 2-year-old son and a 9-year-old daughter. Our daughter is energetic, kind, and loves helping with her younger brother. We live in a house with a yard, close to parks and the library, near McDonald and 16th Ave (on the 002 bus route). We are also a cat-friendly home.

We are really hoping to find someone who this role fits well for in their own personal life—perhaps someone in school in the mornings or pursuing other work or education, where a consistent part-time position is supportive. We truly value long-term relationships with the people in our lives and would love to find someone who can become a steady and caring presence in our family, and who is also getting enjoyment from the position.

Compensation is $26-32/hour depending on experience, plus 4% vacation pay and some sick time. You must be willing to be on payroll. We require previous childcare experience with references we can speak to, as well as current First Aid/CPR certification for infants/toddlers. A valid driver’s license and comfort driving are important for pickup days.

One parent works from home part-time and is otherwise at UBC or BC Children’s Hospital, and the other also works a mix of home and office.

Pay: $26.00-$32.00 per hour

Expected hours: 16.0 per week

Benefits:

- On-site parking

Work Location: In person
