About Plantsome

Plantsome is building a consumer brand for indoor plants and selling it into retail chains across Canada and the United States. A few big brands dominate the outdoor plant world at every garden centre; nobody has built the equivalent for indoor plants, and that is the gap we are going after.

Our offer to retailers is built around a simple problem: most people don't buy plants because they're sure they'll kill them. Every Plantsome plant comes with a free plant care app that tells the customer exactly when to water, fertilize and repot that variety, alongside colour-coded easy-care tags and a branded merchandising system that moves plants roughly 50% faster than the plain grower's pots beside it. We are an investor-owned wholesaler backed by major growers in British Columbia, Ontario and the US, which gives our retailers reliable supply and early access to rare varieties.

The wholesale channel is where the company is going. We have national vendor status with a major hardware retailer, an active pilot conversation with a national Canadian retailer, and a live opportunity with a large US grocery chain. The team is small and the work is varied — this is a place where what you build is visible.

The Role

You will open new retail accounts and help run them once they are open.

Roughly half the job is cold calling — reaching store buyers, franchise owners and operators who have never heard of us and turning that into a first order. Our hardware relationship is a good illustration: we are an approved national vendor, but the chain is a franchise, so each of its 5,000 US stores has to be sold individually. The calls are short, five to ten minutes, and the reception is warmer than most people expect — the problem we solve is one every plant buyer recognizes immediately.

The other half is everything that follows a yes:

getting the account set up, sourcing from the right regional grower, coordinating delivery, keeping the program merchandised, and growing it from one store into many. It is a sales role first, but on a team our size you will also touch logistics, marketing and trade shows.

Key Responsibilities

- Make outbound sales calls daily to prospective retail buyers, franchise owners and independent store operators across Canada and the US
- Build and prioritize target lists using Apollo and other lead generation tools, and manage every contact and next step in Close CRM
- Deliver the pitch, handle objections, send follow-up materials and make the call-backs that turn interest into orders
- Onboard new accounts: vendor setup paperwork, item and SKU setup, pricing sheets, EDI and ordering logistics
- Own the ongoing relationship — reorders, availability, assortment changes, seasonal planning and expanding store count within a chain
- Resolve service issues quickly and directly: quality, shrink, delivery windows and credits
- Coordinate with our growers and 3PL to get plants and merchandising to the store on time and in good shape
- Help produce sell sheets, decks, care cards and in-store merchandising materials, and run outbound email campaigns alongside the calling program
- Represent Plantsome at industry and buying trade shows, and own the follow-up afterward
- Keep the CRM current and report on pipeline, activity and forecast weekly

What We're Looking For

We hire for aptitude. If you are naturally good with people, quick on your feet and curious about how retail works, we will teach you plants, wholesale and the category. Training is hands-on from day one — you'll shadow live sales calls before you make your own.

Requirements

- Comfortable spending a significant part of every day on the phone with people who did not ask you to call
- Excellent phone presence — warm, articulate and easy to listen to
- A strong service instinct and a professional, reliable approach to following through
- Agile and quick-thinking, and able to handle an unexpected question without losing the thread
- Organized and self-directed, and able to own your own day in a remote role on a small team
- Willing to travel occasionally for trade shows and buyer meetings

Assets

- Direct sales, telephone or customer service experience
- Experience selling into retail — working with buyers, category managers or franchise operators
- Basic knowledge of houseplants, tropicals or horticulture
- Experience with Google Workspace, Close CRM, Apollo or comparable CRM and lead generation platforms
- Trade show or event experience
- Working French

What We Offer

- Salary of $50,000 – $60,000, based on experience
- Full time, remote within Canada; Vancouver, BC preferred so we can meet in person from time to time
- Direct training and daily working contact with the CEO, and genuine ownership of your accounts
- Unusual breadth for a sales role — brand, merchandising, logistics and trade shows, not just the phone
- The chance to help build a wholesale channel from the ground up as the business scales

Pay: $50,000.00-$60,000.00 per year

Benefits:

- Extended health care
- Stock options

Work Location: Remote
