About the Role

Long Term Care

Royal Ottawa Place is a 64-bed long-term care facility located at The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. It provides a home-like workplace for adults with stable mental illness and/or physical limitations. The facility is divided into four home areas, each supporting 16 residents, with an average age of 65 years.

Qualifications

- Graduate of recognized Diploma Program in Practical Nursing.
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Knowledge of CNO Standards regarding RPN scope of practice.
- Understanding of MHA and relevant legislation.
- CPR/AED Certification within the last 2 years.
- Completion of Prevention of Violence in the Workplace training (C.P.I.) required.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Technical skills such as glucometer reading, vital signs, injection skills, physical assessment/mental health assessment, catheterization, medication administration, O2 administration,



basic wound care, suctioning, safe patient handling, bladder scanning, ECT recovery, skin care and feeding.
- Ability to develop therapeutic relations with patients.
- Ability to function as a member of the inter-disciplinary team.
- Basic computer skills required.

Preferred:

- Two years recent experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing.
- Knowledge and experience working with individuals with substance use disorders (identifying signs and symptoms of withdrawal or intoxication from substance use).
- Experience facilitating groups.
- Experience working with patients with concurrent disorders.
- Current knowledge of mechanical lifts, transferring and positions techniques.

Language Requirements

English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, comprehension, reading and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.

Salary Range:

37.24 to 39.02 per hour
