Grant Report Writer/Editor (Contract)
- Purpose and Background
The Association of Minnesota Public Educational Radio Stations (AMPERS) is seeking proposals from highly experienced grant report writers to coordinate, write, and edit our annual Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund Report to the Minnesota Legislature. AMPERS is an association of independent community radio stations across Minnesota that produces original arts, culture, and news content. The selected contractor will review, refine, and compile data from member stations into a cohesive, skilled legislative report. - Scope of Work and Duties
Duties The writer will collaborate closely with AMPERS staff and a graphic designer who will handle the final layout using an established template from recent years. Specific duties include:
- Content Development: Improve project descriptions provided by individual stations and combine them with supplementary station data to develop a complete, professional project description section for each initiative.
- Compliance and Data Integrity: Ensure each project description incorporates all specific data required by the grant guidelines, which will be provided upon contract award. Verify that all completed projects appear in the report.
- Outcome Evaluation: Assist in clearly explaining how each station’s assessment methods prove the project successfully met its stated measurable outcomes.
- Data Organization: Organize raw data collected from stations via Microsoft Forms and present it to the graphic designer in camera-ready form,
using edited markups of the previous year’s report or a new Microsoft Word document.
- Project Management: Establish internal milestones with AMPERS staff and ensure all production deadlines are met.
- Editorial Enhancements: Write compelling captions for photos that showcase the broader scope and community impact of the project rather than merely describing what appears visually in the image. Identifyimpactful pull-quotes that showcase project success across the network to be featured throughout the layout.
- Project Timeline
- Early October: Contract begins. Coordination and drafting of the bulk of the report text.
- Thanksgiving: Completion of the first draft of the main report narrative and data sections.
- Thanksgiving to Mid-December: Drafting photo captions, identifying pull-quotes, and conducting final reviews and edits.
- Mid-December: Final delivery of copy to the graphic designer.
- Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience writing comprehensive post-grant reports.
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Acrobat.
- Excellent written communication skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- All work must be physically performed within the state of Minnesota.
Desired Qualifications
- Prior experience authoring Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund grant reports.
- Demonstrated experience writing post-grant compliance reports for State of Minnesota government entities.
- Budget and Compensation
The established budget range for this contract engagement is $3,000 – $4,000.
The successful candidate will be paid 50% of their compensation upon completion of the first draft of the report and the remaining 50% upon the completion of the project.

- Three to four relevant examples of your professional grant report or technical writing work.
- Three to four professional references who can speak to your writing and project management capabilities.
- Any limits regarding the number of rewrites and edit requests.
