About the Team The Ministry of Energy and Resources develops, coordinates and implements policies and programs to promote the growth and responsible development of the province's natural resources industries. The ministry operates as the primary regulatory authority for the oil and gas industry and ensures competitive royalty systems, regulations and policies for all natural resource sectors. ABOUT THE JOB The Opportunity The Government of Saskatchewan is seeking a visionary and strategic senior executive interested in making a real difference as the province shapes its growth initiative for today and future generations.

The Assistant Deputy Minister, Energy Regulation offers an ideal opportunity for a strategically orientated senior leader with excellent communication skills and a collaborative leadership style to help advance Saskatchewan’s energy and resources sector to ensure it leads in competitiveness, responsible resource development and be a key driver in Saskatchewan’s economic recovery and growth.

The Energy Regulation Division regulates the responsible development of Saskatchewan’s oil, gas and associated mineral resources through all phases of development from initial exploration through to decommissioning and site reclamation. With a focus on public safety and the workplace, the Division delivers programs and services to ensure equitable development of the resources, effective management of the liabilities associated with the activities,



and collection of accurate information to support government decision making processes and industry.

Responsibilities

- Delivering on ministry’s strategic goal of achieving regulatory excellence in support of the responsible development of Saskatchewan’s oil and gas and associated mineral resources;
- Developing and implementing programs and services related to effective regulation of the exploration, development and production activities of the oil, gas and associated minerals industry while ensuring environmental, safety and resource conservation objectives are met;
- Managing long-term liability associated with wells, facilities and pipelines;
- Collecting, processing and storing oil and gas and other mineral resource data to support revenue collection and provide information to support resource management, revenue collection and industry development;
- Providing strategic options, comprehensive policy advice, briefing papers, recommendations and perspectives to the Deputy Minister on functions, activities and issues;
- Analyzing existing systems and structure for efficiency and effectiveness, and develop integration strategies across divisions and with other government and non-government systems;
- Building strategic, collaborative relationships with key ministries/agencies across government, industry sector stakeholders and First Nations and Métis community partners.
- Demonstrating exceptional diplomacy through written and oral communication including the ability to work with, and influence, a variety of stakeholders;
- Managing fiscal and human resources to ensure the effective use of resources in meeting ministry objectives; and,
- Representing the Ministry and province on various federal/provincial/territorial councils to provide input and perspective on policies and standards.
