Widely regarded as one of the nation’s most cutting-edge and ascendant law schools, the University of Denver Sturm College of Law offers a full-time JD program, a part-time JD program, and a set of pioneering and nationally recognized Master’s degree programs. The Sturm College of Law also supports a nationally recognized Animal Law Program, which seeks to advance the welfare of non-human animals through teaching, research, and public engagement.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Director of the Animal Law Program, the Program Manager is responsible for advancing a variety of programmatic priorities, including strategic communications, conference and event support, assistance with grant applications and post-grant administration, and collaboration with outside stakeholders, including governmental bodies, non-profit partners, and higher educational institutions.

Essential Functions

- Develop and manage educational programming, networking events, community outreach, and strategic initiatives that advance student engagement and promote the Animal Law Program.
- Provide leadership in animal law and policy through teaching, conducting research, serving as a subject matter expert, and participating in public policy and governmental advisory roles.
- Advise and mentor law students and emerging professionals on academic planning, career pathways, externships, and experiential opportunities in animal law and policy.
- Support and advance academic initiatives by supervising interns and research fellows, contributing to scholarship and certificate programs, and co-developing interdisciplinary initiatives.
- Build and maintain partnerships with faculty, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and professional organizations to expand volunteer, research, employment, and advocacy opportunities.
- Lead communications and program promotion by collaborating on marketing, admissions materials, event publicity, and representing the program at conferences, festivals, and career fairs.

Required Qualifications

- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited four-year university or college
- Two to four (2-4) years of work experience in a similar or related role
- Outstanding written and oral communications skills
- Familiarity with issues relating to animal law and policy

Preferred Qualifications

- A JD or equivalent legal degree
- Experience in higher education

Working Environment

- Standard office environment.
- Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
- Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

- Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
- Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. This is an exempt position. Occasional work during evenings and weekends may be required to meet designated job objectives.

Salary Grade Number:

The salary grade for the position is 9.

Salary Range:

The salary range for this position is $72,000-$74,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
