The Josef Korbel School of Global & Public Affairs at the University of Denver is an interdisciplinary professional school of international studies that prepares students for careers in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. The school offers seven master's degrees and two undergraduate degrees, and houses several research centers and institutes.

Position Summary The Josef Korbel School seeks an energetic and experienced Assistant Director for External Engagement. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in day-to-day project direction, experience in event management and internal and external communication, knowledge and education in a disciplinary field related to international affairs, and excellent written and oral communication skills. They will also be task-oriented and detail-conscious while appropriately prioritizing and balancing a complex overall workload.
The Assistant Director will serve as the administrative point-person for a diverse portfolio of programs and activities and contribute to team-oriented initiatives that support the research and outreach efforts of the Korbel School and across the University of Denver.
The Assistant
Director will work closely with the Korbel School’s Dean’s team, the Associate Dean for Research and Faculty, and institute and center staff, as well as DU central administration to ensure the successful management and execution of Korbel School activities.
The Assistant Director will be responsible for management of events, conferences and workshops, communication with internal and external constituents, and research support.
The Assistant
Director will also collaborate with other staff to coordinate events, communications, publications, and outreach efforts across DU, the Korbel School, and its research centers and institutes, and to integrate research-related activities into the school’s curricular, co-curricular and public engagement efforts. This role will supervise an events manager.
Essential Functions
- Work with the dean to determine strategic priorities for the school with an emphasis on smooth and innovative program execution
- Serve as the primary representative to current and potential partners interested in or engaged with Korbel School initiatives.
- Provide assistance to the Assistant Dean on multiple partnerships and student exchange programs (international and domestic).
- Supervise support staff and student employees, including delegating and assigning work, evaluating performance and resolving issues.
- Manage Korbel projects, events, and communications, as well as facilitate coordination with Korbel School thematic programs.
- Plan and execute events, workshops, meetings with external partners, government officials, academics, and others. Conduct outreach to speakers, manage event budgeting and accounting, and handle event logistics and publicity.
- Liaise with student groups, other units, and university offices on programming related to the school’s mission.
- Provide support for cross-cutting Korbel School initiatives, programs, and large events and activities as required.
- Provide support for Research Council activities and research communications.

- Ability to exercise independent judgment and to provide strategic insight in a fast-paced educational setting.
- Ability to professionally represent the Scrivner Institute and the Korbel School to high-profile scholars, policymakers, and current and potential funders.
- Excellent writing and editorial skills.
- Ability to interpret and manipulate financial and budget data for use in general reporting.
- Excellent skills in word processing, spreadsheet, and database management.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related field or equivalent.
- Five (5) years of relevant previous experience, including at least two years in a program management role.
- Experience in event planning, including outreach to and communication with speakers and participants, travel and other logistical arrangements for participants, event implementation, and pre- and post-event publicity.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Google applications as well as the willingness to learn new systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven skills in current engagement with and outreach to relevant network and stakeholders.
- Experience developing publications, communications, and marketing materials, including contact databases, websites, and social media campaigns.
- Experience working with Event Management Software
- Knowledge and education in a disciplinary field related to international affairs
Working Environment
- Standard office environment.
- Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
- Noise level is quiet to moderate.
Physical Activities
- Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
- Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. In accordance with the University’s flexible work policy, this position is eligible to be considered for partial remote work. Further details regarding this plan will be determined with the hiring manager and are dependent on division and team-specific needs.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 11.
Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $80,000-$85,000.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
