Busy St. Thomas storefront criminal law practice seeking an associate lawyer, with the potential to transition into ownership. This position will appeal a lawyer who would appreciate team work and mentoring, but who is also a self-starter and effective multitasker, with an avid interest in criminal law.

Key Responsibilities

 Representing clients charged with criminal offences at all stages of the proceedings, in both the Superior Court of Justice and Ontario Court of Justice

 Assisting clients at bail hearings, adjournments, remands, guilty pleas, trials,

applications, crown and judicial pre-trials, and other necessary steps in a court proceeding

 Representing clients in specialty courts, including Youth Courts, Therapeutic

Courts, and other courts and tribunals as required

 Attending for both in person and remote court appearances

 Conduct legal research, draft applications, motions, facta, and other court documents

 Build strong solicitor/client relationships, provide sound legal opinions, and support clients through all steps of the court process





 File management, including use of computer technology, word processing software, with minimal supervision

 Build and maintain a strong knowledge base of the Criminal Code, Controlled

Drugs and Substances Act, Youth Criminal Justice Act, Canadian Charter of

Rights and Freedoms, criminal law principles, rules of evidence, and case law.

Required Skills

 Lawyer in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario

 Valid Driver’s Licence and the ability to attend courthouses across Southwestern

Ontario as required

 Understanding of the Rules of Qualified Conduct

 Commitment to social justice
