CN Auto Repair
Calgary
Service Writer / Automotive Service Advisor
Know Cars? Like People? We Want to Meet You.
CN Auto Repair – Calgary, AB
Are you the person your friends call when their car is making a weird noise?
Do you know the difference between a control arm and a control module? Can you look at a vehicle history and understand what needs attention now — and what can wait?
If you know vehicles and know how to deal with people, we want to talk to you.
CN Auto Repair is a busy, well-established automotive repair shop in Calgary. We have been serving our customers for over 45 years, and we're looking for an experienced Service Writer / Service Advisor to join our team.
This isn't a job where you're expected to simply write down what the customer says and hand it to a technician. You're the bridge between the customer and the shop. You'll help customers understand what's happening with their vehicle, work with our technicians, recommend appropriate services, and make sure the entire repair experience runs smoothly.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're especially interested in someone with real automotive experience.
You might be
- An experienced automotive Service Advisor / Service Writer
- A parts counterperson who knows vehicles and wants to take the next step
- A former automotive technician or apprentice who enjoys the automotive industry but no longer wants the physical demands of turning wrenches
- Someone with strong automotive knowledge who has worked around vehicles and understands how they work
- An automotive enthusiast who has developed excellent practical knowledge through years of experience
You don't need to be a master technician — but you do need to understand vehicles. You should be comfortable talking about major vehicle systems and components such as engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, steering, exhaust, cooling systems, electrical systems and drivetrains.
Most importantly, you need to be able to communicate that knowledge to a customer in a way they can understand.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As a Service Writer / Advisor, you'll:
- Greet customers and provide a professional, welcoming experience
- Listen carefully to customer concerns and accurately document their requests
- Write up repair orders and communicate customer concerns to technicians
- Review technician findings and explain repairs and recommendations to customers
- Prepare estimates and obtain customer authorization
- Recommend maintenance and repairs based on vehicle condition and history
- Explain the why behind recommended repairs — not just the price
- Keep customers informed throughout the repair process
- Answer incoming calls and schedule appointments
- Make follow-up calls and appointment confirmations
- Coordinate with technicians and parts suppliers
- Monitor repair progress and communicate delays or changes
- Review completed work orders before vehicles are released
- Explain completed repairs to customers at pickup
- Help ensure customers receive their vehicles on time and with the work properly completed
- Provide a consistently professional customer experience
WHAT MAKES SOMEONE GREAT AT THIS JOB? We're looking for someone who is:
Knowledgeable – You understand vehicles and aren't intimidated by automotive terminology.
A Great Communicator – You can explain a complicated repair to someone who knows nothing about cars.
Honest – You believe in recommending what the vehicle actually needs, not selling something just because you can.
Organized – You can keep track of multiple customers, technicians, parts and appointments without losing your mind.
Confident – You can make recommendations and have conversations about repairs and costs.
Personable – Customers should enjoy dealing with you.
A Team Player – You'll work closely with technicians, parts suppliers, management and customers every day.
EXPERIENCE WE'D LOVE TO SEE
Experience in any of the following would be an asset:
- Automotive Service Advisor / Service Writer
- Automotive Technician / Apprentice
- Parts Counter / Automotive Parts Store
- Dealership Service Department
- Independent Repair Shop
- Fleet maintenance or fleet service
- Automotive parts or service sales
- Automotive estimating
- Strong personal automotive experience and knowledge
PBS experience is an asset.
