Position: Backend Engineer – Python (API & Platform Engineering)

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Onsite - In-person interview in Toronto is MANDATORY)

Experience Level: 5–10+ Years (Backend Focused)

Role Overview

ITMC Systems is seeking skilled Python Backend Engineers to build and scale high-performance backend systems. This role focuses on API development, platform engineering, and distributed system design to support enterprise-grade, scalable, and secure financial platforms.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Python.
- Build and manage robust RESTful APIs and backend integrations (OpenAPI, JSON).
- Drive platform engineering initiatives to ensure high reliability, observability, and scalability.
- Lead and contribute to system design discussions for fault-tolerant distributed systems.
- Collaborate with frontend, DevOps, and product teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
- Optimize performance, security, and observability across core backend microservices.
- Conduct code reviews and enforce software engineering best practices.





Required Qualifications

- 5 to 10+ years of professional backend engineering experience with Python.
- Hands-on expertise in API design and development (REST, JSON, OpenAPI).
- Strong foundational knowledge in system design (scalability, fault tolerance, performance).
- Experience in platform engineering or developing shared backend platforms.
- Solid proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Practical experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and contemporary DevOps workflows.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a Canadian university or college.
- Strong communication and collaborative problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience within Financial Services or FinTech environments.
- Knowledge of microservices architecture and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Exposure to security, compliance, and high-availability systems.
