Your Prospect

As our Child and Youth Development Specialist, you will support families virtually and in their home, providing family-centred support to families which have children with developmental delays and disabilities aged 0-3 ½ years of age. You will work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team (including Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists and Physical Therapists) providing support to identify goals and assist the family in obtaining necessary supports for their child and family. You may also provide information on child development based on results of the ASQ screening; encourage play activities suitable for the child’s developmental abilities, as well as routines-based interventions individualized to each family and coach families to incorporate into their day-to-day routine the recommendations from other professionals.

Your strong interpersonal and teamwork skills and ability to organize and prioritize is essential. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong computer skills. This position supports families in the County of Beaver and Lamont.

This position will be based out of the Tofield Community Hospital. For employees who accept a difficult-to-recruit regular position at a worksite in Alberta's North, Central or South Zones. Up to $60,000 depending on FTE and length of Return for Service Agreement.

Description

As a Child & Youth Development Specialist (CYDS), you will provide assessment, treatment and follow-up to children and youth in the community, educational system, and/or hospital setting who are at risk of or have a disability,



and/or have a significant developmental delay. Using a family-centered care approach, you will create, implement and update family service plans specific to child/youth needs, adapting interventions/activities as appropriate. As a CYDS, you will observe, identify and report child developmental or behaviour difficulties and make recommendations to the appropriate interdisciplinary team.

You will liaise with and provide referrals to other disciplines and external agencies as appropriate. You will provide information and education regarding child/youth development to parents, education providers, other interprofessionals and the community. You will support family funding and education/services placement applications and maintain printed resources and equipment for child and adolescent programs.

Required Qualifications

Completion of bachelor's degree in Child & Youth Care or a related field or equivalent education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with children and their families.
