The Facilities Cleaner assists in the day-to-day upkeep of WCRI by completing regular cleaning, emergency cleaning, and grounds keeping. This position is for a fulltime 1-month contract, the salary listed will be prorated for the 1 month duration.
Summary Statement The Facilities Cleaner works as a part of the WCRI Facilities Team to complete cleaning activities and grounds keeping within the Co-op.
Primary duties and responsibilities The Facilities Cleaner works under the supervision of the Facilities Manager and within organizational policies and procedures to perform a variety of cleaning and grounds work including:
Cleaning
- In accordance with the schedule developed by the Facility Manager:
- Clean the common areas (bathrooms, kitchens, common rooms, units, hallways, stairwells, entrances) of the residence divisions.
- Clean the common areas (hallways, stairwells, entrances) of the apartment divisions.
- Remove all garbage and recycling from all buildings (common areas, entrances, bathrooms, kitchens)
- Respond to any emergency cleaning needs as they arise.
- Assist with the end of term room and apartment cleaning each term.
Grounds
- In accordance with the schedule developed by Facility Manager:
- Pick up garbage and debris on the building properties.
- Clean and maintain gardens and trees/shrubs on the properties.
- Assist with winter salting.
Other duties
- Assist with the upkeep of building and property maintenance by reporting maintenance work orders when noticed.
- Posting and removing various posters on the building cork boards and keeping the same in order while promoting interior aesthetics achievements.
Qualifications
Mental Effort
- Ability to read and comprehend verbal and written instructions in English.
- Communicating effectively and courteously with staff and members
- Prioritizing work and managing time
Physical Effort
- Standing for long periods of time. (5 to 8 hours per day)
- Walking between jobs and using stairs.
- Bending, lifting, and moving materials such as garbage, cleaning supplies, and equipment.
- Performing repetitive manual dexterity tasks.
Working Conditions The Facilities Crew works a standard 37.5-hour work week but will be required to work the occasional evening and weekend.
Additional hours are necessary during sign-in and sign-out periods.
- Fast-paced environment, both indoors and outdoors.
- Possible exposure to contaminants such as grease, oil, chemicals, odors, and noise.
- Working independently for approximately 90% of the day.
- Required working attire: appropriate footwear; safety glasses and gloves if dispensing chemicals.
Supervision
Directly supervised by Facilities Manager; task completion checked regularly.
Job Requirements
- WHMIS Training (provided)
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- 1-2 years previous experience in commercial or residential cleaning role
Job Types: Full time, Fixed term contract Pay: $44,580.00 per year
