CNC Machinist – Full time, Fixed-Term Contract (Maple Ridge, BC)

Innovative Parts & Solutions Ltd. (IPS), established in 1975, is a Canadian manufacturer of railroad tools, maintenance-of-way equipment, and custom fabricated products. We are seeking an experienced and versatile CNC Machinist to join our Machine Shop team.

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment involving both custom and production machining. We are looking for someone who is productive, mechanically minded, capable of multitasking, and interested in becoming proficient across the equipment in our machine shop.

This is a full-time, fixed-term contract position for 3 months. Subject to business needs and performance, there may be future opportunities for continued employment with IPS.

Key Responsibilities

· Set up and operate Haas CNC machines using Gibbs software and High-Speed Milling strategies to achieve required cycle times, dimensions, and tolerances.

· Set up and operate CNC and conventional/manual mills and lathes.

· Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and machining requirements.

· Select appropriate tooling, workholding, cutting parameters, and machining methods.

· Make program and offset adjustments as required to maintain quality and productivity.

· Identify and resolve machining and production issues.

· Maintain productivity while meeting quality and delivery requirements.

· Multitask and prioritize competing production requirements and urgent requests.

· Cross-train on equipment throughout the machine shop and work toward being capable of operating all major machines in the shop.

· Maintain safe operating practices and perform basic machine maintenance.

· Maintain an organized and productive work area and notify the Lead Hand when materials, tooling, or supplies are required.

Continuous Improvement

· Support and maintain IPS's 5S workplace organization program.

· Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, machining methods, and material utilization.

· Bring an innovative,



problem-solving approach to machining and production challenges.

· Participate in continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility.

Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· Machining experience is required.

· Experience with CNC mills and/or lathes, including machine setup.

· Experience interpreting engineering drawings and working to dimensional tolerances.

· Robust mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills.

· Ability to work efficiently and productively in a fast-paced CNC manufacturing environment.

· Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently.

· Willingness to cross-train and develop proficiency across different machines.

· Ability to safely use hand and power tools.

· Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

· Experience with Gibbs software, CNC programming, High-Speed Milling, and/or both custom and production machining is an asset.

· Experience with 5S or Lean Manufacturing principles is an asset.

· Registered apprentices with relevant machining experience will also be considered.
