Conversion Crew

Job Type: Seasonal, Casual Part-time
Hours: Evenings, Weekends, Event-based The Avenir Centre is seeking enthusiastic and dependable individuals to join our team as Conversion Crew members. As a member of the conversion/changeover crew, you will play an important role in preparing the Avenir Centre for a variety of events, including hockey games, concerts, family shows, and other large-scale events.
The Conversion Crew is responsible for converting the facility between different event configurations, including transitioning from hockey mode to concert or other event modes and returning the facility to its original configuration. This position involves physical work, teamwork, and the safe and efficient setup and teardown of event spaces.
Additional event-related preparation, setup, maintenance, and other duties may be assigned as required.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lay down and remove ice decking as required for events.
- Remove and reinstall rink glass and dasher boards as required for event setups and hockey configurations.
- Set up and tear down folding chairs, staging, risers, and other event equipment.
- Reinstall arena glass and dasher board exits when returning the facility to hockey configuration.
- Assist with the safe and efficient conversion of the facility between event configurations.
- Assist with the setup and teardown of event spaces and equipment.
- Wear a CSA-approved hockey helmet whenever walking on the ice surface.
- Assist with the daily maintenance, organization, and upkeep of department equipment.
- Follow all established safety procedures and protocols.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Previous labour, construction, event setup, warehouse, or related experience is considered an asset.
- Must have CSA-approved steel-toe work boots.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and carry loads of up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to work safely with hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and safety procedures.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and effectively as part of a team.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to perform physically demanding tasks.
- Ability to work a varied schedule, including evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and event-based hours.
- Must be flexible and able to adjust availability based on the Avenir Centre's event schedule.
Working Conditions This position requires significant physical effort, including prolonged periods of standing and walking, including the use of stairs, as well as frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of equipment and materials.
The position requires the use of various tools and equipment that may cause physical injury if not handled and operated in accordance with established safety practices and procedures.
Employees are required to follow all applicable WHMIS, WorkSafeNB, and provincial Occupational Health and Safety requirements, as well as Avenir Centre policies and procedures.
Work may take place in varying temperatures and conditions, including on or around the ice surface.
Other Requirements
Due to the nature of the Avenir Centre's event-based operations, successful candidates must be available to work irregular hours as dictated by the event schedule, including evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Employees must have the flexibility to modify their schedules when required to support event setup, changeover, and teardown activities.

Job Type: Fixed term contract
