Data Engineering Internship – Remote | Canada
We are hiring on behalf of one of our clients for a motivated and technically driven Data Engineering Intern to join their team remotely in Canada. This opportunity is suitable for candidates who want to gain practical industry experience in data engineering, data pipelines, databases, cloud technologies, data warehousing, and modern data infrastructure.
The selected candidate will work on practical data engineering projects and gain exposure to the complete data lifecycle, including data collection, transformation, integration, storage, validation, and delivery for analytics and business applications.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data pipelines.
- Support ETL and ELT processes for collecting and transforming data from multiple sources.
- Extract, clean, transform, validate, and integrate data for analytical and business requirements.
- Work with structured and unstructured datasets.
- Develop and optimise SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and analysis.
- Assist in managing relational and non-relational databases.
- Support the development and maintenance of data warehouses and data lakes.
- Assist in automating recurring data processing and integration workflows.
- Monitor data pipelines and assist in identifying and resolving data processing issues.
- Implement data quality checks to ensure accuracy, consistency, completeness, and reliability.
- Work with Data Scientists, Data Analysts, Software Engineers, and other stakeholders.
- Assist with data modelling and designing efficient data structures.
- Document data pipelines, workflows, technical processes, and project requirements.
- Participate in technical discussions, project meetings, testing, and code reviews.
- Research emerging data engineering tools, frameworks, and cloud technologies.
- Follow best practices related to data security, governance, scalability, and maintainability.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Basic to intermediate understanding of Data Engineering concepts and practices.
- Strong understanding of SQL and relational databases.
- Knowledge of Python or another programming language used for data processing.
- Understanding of ETL/ELT concepts and data pipeline architecture.
- Familiarity with databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or similar technologies.
- Understanding of data cleaning, transformation, integration, and validation.
- Familiarity with Git/GitHub and version-control concepts.
- Basic understanding of data warehousing and data modelling.
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud is an advantage.
- Knowledge of Apache Spark, Apache Airflow, Kafka, Databricks, or similar technologies is beneficial.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Valuable attention to detail and ability to work with large datasets.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
- Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to evolving technical requirements.
