Haldimand War Memorial Hospital, located in beautiful Dunnville, Ontario (45 minutes from

Hamilton, Ontario) is a 39 bed rural hospital serving acute care and complex care patients.

We are seeking an exceptional, forward‑thinking leader to join our dynamic team. This is an opportunity to influence organizational culture, elevate patient experience, and lead meaningful change.

Position Summary:

The Director, Education, Quality and Patient Experience plays a pivotal role in advancing HWMH’s strategic priorities related to quality, safety, staff development, and patient‑centered care. Reporting to the VP & CNE, Diversity the Director will collaborate across all departments to design, implement, and evaluate initiatives that strengthen clinical excellence, enhance patient experience, and support continuous improvement.

This role requires a highly motivated, relationship‑driven leader who thrives in a cooperative environment and is committed to advancing exceptional care in a rural hospital setting. The successful candidate will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, organizations, and community groups to achieve program objectives, integrate and link services and foster partnerships across the continuum of service delivery.

Vacancy Status:

The posting is for one (1) upcoming permanent, full-time vacancy.

Hours of Work:

The successful candidate will work Monday – Friday (37.5 hours weekly) with a willingness to adjust his/her schedule to meet the needs of the hospital. This position also participates in the role of administrator on call (rotational on-call).

Salary:

$59.57 - $66.50 per hour.

Key areas of accountability include:

Education

· Coordinates and supports post-secondary learner placements, ensures current academic affiliation agreements are in place and adhered to.

· Coordinates and supports secondary school co-operative education placements.

· Maintains the internal Learning Management System, ensuring compliance with annual training requirements based on legislation and organizational policies.

· Oversee and support the Clinical Scholar program of the Ministry of Health, participating in the program evolution, evaluation and required reporting.

· Assisting and collaborating with Directors and staff to achieve educational goals and objectives.

· Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure that development programs support the organizations’ academic commitment to supporting learners and staff across the employee lifecycle.





· Engage in and foster professional development of all staff and provide opportunities for learning within budgeted resources.

· Participates in regional communities of practice to promote ongoing collaboration and partnerships.

Quality

· Leading organizational quality and patient safety strategies.

· Lead in the development and execution of the organization’s Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) as required by Ontario Health.

· Coordinating the development, implementation, and evaluation of the hospital's overall Quality Improvement (QI) program, which includes all departments.

· Identifying incident trends, prioritize and recommend improvements.

· Monitoring performance (in relevant areas) according to agreed standards and take necessary action to communicate/advise/assist according to performance levels.

· Establishing and implementing necessary communication strategy for the improvement and awareness of quality issues across all departments.

· Provide support to the Senior Team as a lead resource to the Quality & Risk Management Committee of the Board.

· Oversee the accreditation process and work to ensure that the hospital achieve, maintain and continually improve upon their accredited status.

Patient Experience

· Managing patient feedback processes and ensuring timely, compassionate follow-up.

· Ensuring excellence and high-quality patient care by supporting and assisting in the analysis of patient safety incidents.

· Collaborate with respective Directors related to incident reports, patient complaints, patient care issues, and other issues as required.

· Ensure a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors; investigate, report, debrief and take or direct corrective action as required.

· Member of the Patient and Family Advisory Team Committee.

· Oversee the Patient Relations process to ensure standards and legislative compliance.

· Monitoring and reporting on results of patient experience surveys.

· Participating in Quality of Care reviews as requested.

Qualifications:

· Baccalaureate degree in a healthcare-related field such as nursing or other regulated healthcare profession required.



Master’s Degree in a regulated health discipline preferred.

· A member in good standing with a Regulated Health Profession in Ontario.

· A member of a professional Association (eg. RNAO etc.).

· Minimum of five (5) years recent experience in a current related clinical and administrative role is preferred.

· Demonstrated experience leading change initiatives.

· Proven commitment to patient experience, quality improvement, and safe care delivery—preferably within the hospital sector.

· Strong knowledge of relevant healthcare legislation (e.g., Regulated Health Professions Act, Public Hospitals Act).

· Strong knowledge of accreditation standards and processes.

· Ability to bring creativity, openness, and a continuous improvement mindset to organizational challenges.

· Skilled educator with the ability to deliver training to individuals and groups using various media.

· Proficiency with spreadsheets, Word, PowerPoint, information gathering and analysis, and email.

· Strong problem-solving skills and ability to act as a resource to staff and leaders.

· Demonstrated ability to work independently while fostering collaboration across interprofessional teams.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Strong organizational, critical thinking, assessment, and time‑management abilities.

· Evidence of ongoing professional development.

· Being current and knowledgeable with Accreditation Standards for the hospital.

· Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance.

· Commitment to a healthy and safe workplace.
