THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Engineer / Designer to join our team and contribute to our upcoming project. You will be accountable for executing technical strategies throughout the project lifecycle and will directly impact the Scovan customer experience. This role will report directly to the Director of Projects.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Electrical Engineering
- Be a part of a dynamic project team, working with the Project Manager to execute electrical engineering responsibilities on challenging and innovative projects.
- Ensure project execution is in accordance with the Scovan Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP), applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
- Collaborate with clients to understand project objectives, define success criteria, and develop effective electrical engineering solutions.
- Communicate, interface, and collaborate effectively with managers, project teams, vendors, clients, and other project stakeholders throughout the duration of a project.
- Advocate for sound engineering and design practices by ensuring project teams have the time and resources required to execute quality work.
- Work with stakeholders to identify opportunities to exceed project objectives and deliver exceptional project outcomes.
- Provide technical guidance and support to the electrical design and drafting team as required.
Electrical Design
- Monitor project scopes, schedules, and budgets as they relate to electrical design and drafting activities.
- Ensure all electrical drawings and drafting deliverables are prepared in accordance with Scovan standards, specifications, applicable codes, and project requirements.
- Coordinate and execute work in accordance with schedule requirements for electrical design and drafting deliverables in collaboration with the Project Manager and Design Team.
- Pursue design and drafting excellence by identifying opportunities to automate, optimize, and advance productivity and efficiencies that reduce overall costs and improve the quality of deliverables.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to drafters and other members of the design team.
- Collaborate with project teams, engineering teams, electrical teams, and other project partners and stakeholders throughout project execution.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 8-10 years of experience of applicable project execution experience
- APEGA Licensed Professional Engineer (P. Eng)
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software, advanced knowledge of Excel is a benefit
- You come with a technical electrical design background and have exposure to electrical design execution and responsibilities in your past roles
- Robust conflict resolution and negotiation skills and the ability to manage in an environment of ambiguity with a diverse range of partners
- Experience working in continuous delivery environments where the pace is fast
- Expertise and competency in the following areas:
- Hazardous area assessment and classification
- Low and medium voltage power systems
- Electrical system studies and using SKM or ETAP software (short circuit, load flow, coordination, arc flash)
- Electrical and controls design, integration, equipment sizing and selection (generators, transformers, switchgears, MCC, PLC and control systems, heat tracing infrastructure)
